A diary of an Ely allotment (by Zoe)
I have a cunning plan – This Blessed Plot
https://thisblessedplot.wordpress.com/2009/01/09/i-have-a-cunning-plan
The diary of an Ely allotment. From Plot to Plate. January 9, 2009. February 3, 2009. I have a cunning plan. Okay, so my freelance work is quiet at the moment and I’ve had some spare time on my hands. But as you can see I’ve spent it wisely drawing out my allotment plan for the coming year. Now if I just spend as much time and attention to actually growing the veg as I have drawing them – all will turn out well! Click to email (Opens in new window). A little review and plans new – This Blessed Plot
https://thisblessedplot.wordpress.com/2015/01/03/a-little-review-and-plans-new
The diary of an Ely allotment. From Plot to Plate. January 3, 2015. January 3, 2015. A little review and plans new. Happy New Year everyone! A new year means new plans, new seeds, and newly replenished beds like dark blank canvases, all ready to be filled with a promise of good things to come. Bring on the warm days of spring. But for now, in line with the rest of the media at this time of year, here’s my little review of 2014. It’s often hard to determine what will work out and what won’t, s...Savoy cab...
New bed and advice for newbies – This Blessed Plot
https://thisblessedplot.wordpress.com/2015/03/09/new-bed-and-advice-for-newbies
The diary of an Ely allotment. From Plot to Plate. March 9, 2015. March 9, 2015. New bed and advice for newbies. As documented in my arty-farty journal (see last post), John and I have been doing a touch of re-landscaping at the top end of the plot. This is how the circular flower bed at the top end of my plot used to look. There is a circle there somewhere! Here it was towards the end of last summer after chopping down the weeds and flowers, taken from the opposite direction. March 9, 2015 at 11:25 pm.
Allotment journal for July – This Blessed Plot

The diary of an Ely allotment. From Plot to Plate. August 3, 2015. August 3, 2015. Allotment journal for July. My garlic isn’t quite as pink as it is in my picture (bit of artistic license there) as you can see below, but I did manage to produce 4 plaits and filled a basket with the hardback and elephant garlic. Adventures in growing interesting and unusual edibles…. What I’m Growing in 2016. Where to Buy Seeds. Cucumber – Mandurian Round. My main aim for starting this blog was to keep a record of all the new things I’ve tried to grow each year in my allotment and greenhouse. So I thought I’d start with one of new varieties I’ve tried in my greenhouse this year; Cucumber – Mandurian Round. Not your typical looking Cucumber…! Oh so sweet and crunchy flesh…. In terms of growing them, they’re really no differ...

Notes on a Garden: March 2013
http://notesonagarden-karin.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Notes on a Garden. Gardening with nature in mind. Books I've Found Useful. Spring in the Garden. Monday, 11 March 2013. We decided to buy a couple more chickens last weekend as we're only getting one good egg from our other two at the moment. Fudge hardly ever lays an egg with a decent shell, so it is being eaten before we can get to it. There were lots of chickens to choose from:. Here are the two we chose, Bilbo and Frodo - yes, I know Bilbo and Frodo Baggins are male, but hobbits aren't human. That da...

Notes on a Garden: Adding a Splash of Spring Colour
http://notesonagarden-karin.blogspot.com/2011/02/adding-splash-of-spring-colour.html
Notes on a Garden. Gardening with nature in mind. Books I've Found Useful. Spring in the Garden. Thursday, 24 February 2011. Adding a Splash of Spring Colour. What a lovely day it was today; quite Spring-like. I had a thin jumper on, but didn't need a coat. The birds were singing and calling out to each other and for a while I was serenaded by a dunnock. He was quite close, but annoyingly I didn't have my camera to hand. The bed on the other side of the path has colour, but needs a good tidy up. I look f...

Notes on a Garden: The last of my Spring cabbages
http://notesonagarden-karin.blogspot.com/2009/06/last-of-my-spring-cabbages.html
Notes on a Garden. Gardening with nature in mind. Books I've Found Useful. Spring in the Garden. Sunday, 21 June 2009. The last of my Spring cabbages. Things are growing quite well in the garden at the moment. I just harvested the last of my pointed cabbages, which had been attacked a bit by a couple of slugs and some tiny green maggoty things. However, this was the worst one, most of the others only showed slug and snail damage on the outer leaves, which we don't eat. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

I should probably be down there now instead of blogging! So in brief, we’re still munching our way through a glut of courgettes. The picture above is a typical weekly harvest of them. I’m loving this dark leaved lettuce. I would tell you the variety name, but I can’t remember it and I no longer have the seed packet! The flowers are looking pretty, a combination of cosmos and dahlias here. We had a lovely time meeting up with extended family in the (for once) sunny Lake District. Warm enough for a pad...
