Penelope Za's Scribblings. Poems, opinions and the like. The Hunt movie at Diff 2013. July 9, 2012. July 9, 2012. Awkward in my own skin. I walk self-consciously into the room. No-one notices me, do they? Or do they see that I know not how. I put one foot in front of the other. But it feels not. Should my hips sway? Or be thrust forward…. Why can these hips not. Decide on their own. Slide into a seat. We look at slides. Who is that person on the left? It is me…can you not see me? Mired in Quicksand →.

Design & Illustration. Travel & Restaurants. July 20, 2015. You can even make your own cocktails with some of their syrups. We made our own concoction the other day, with Ginger Ale fizzed water which we then added Ginger liquor and freshly squeezed lime to with lots of ice. It was amazing! So seeing as it’s my birthday MONTH (yes there is such a thing) I thought it would be awesome to share some of my gifts and SodaStream agreed with me, so I have the exact same machine to giveaway. Yay! August 12, 2013.

In the name of the father… or the mother? | Spindrifting South African seamonkey.

Spindrifting South African seamonkey. It all comes down to hamsters in the end. In the name of the father… or the mother? Rebecca at Girl’s Gone Child. Wrote a post about whether or not to take your husband’s surname, and whose name the kids will get. Imagine we had some kids. Not just one because multiple spawn make the name game more interesting, and actually less complicated. I have considered many of the alternatives people mention on Rebecca’s blog, and some others:. The BFG suggested just picking a...

African in the East: February 2012
http://africanintheeast.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
African in the East. Friday, February 24, 2012. During my summer holiday back home, not only did I have an awesome time with family and friends, but I also managed to touch down in the mother city, Cape Town, in time for my gorgeous friend Kerry's bachelorette party and wedding. As one of the bridesmaids, I also got to be behind the scenes for this epic event and what a privilege and honour, thanks Kez. The party was hosted at Cafe Chic. Geography: Since the couple had planned a beach side honeymoon in B...

African in the East: December 2012
http://africanintheeast.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
African in the East. Sunday, December 23, 2012. 1 having the exact amount of credit on my transport card for one more ride home. 2 blowing air on a cold day - pretending to smoke. 3 experiencing the first snow fall of the season (if you come from Africa possibly first snow ever). Sending love to the BF from the east :). 4 reading/finishing a good book (Read The Help - even though I had already seen the movie the book was still worth it). Saturday, December 22, 2012. Some Alice in Wonderland. Anyone who k...

Poetry is death cast out. Saturday, July 28, 2012. My plants really do feel like a family. It might be because I have no pets, but I think it is also because it is actually really exciting when something is growing and changing in your house. All you had to do was water it (and talk to it, a little, when no one can hear you) and then, voila! Links to this post. Wednesday, July 18, 2012. In honour of Mandela's 94th Birthday. I think this quote needs no stories or any more of an introduction than the one I...

Irenenenene: March 2015
http://irenenenene.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 18 March 2015. The second epic journey - Part 12. We packed the last few things and our host had kindly booked a boat trip (with picknic) at Vioolsdrift wine estate for us. We took our time to get there, got a free wine tasting, included in the price. Both of us were still recovering from the hike the day before, so this trip was just what we needed. The trip is approximately two hours on the river - surrounded by beauty and quiet. A few impressions from the town (the collection is growing).

Irenenenene: May 2014

Tuesday, 27 May 2014. Here is the lauch of the team - yes, with some South Africans. This year, there was less of the aerobatics side and more of a display. However, what was truly, insanely amazing was glider aerobatics - that's right, no motor, jsut doing aerobatics on the speed, height and updrafts of the air. This is the world champion in action (obviously NOT present at our little display). A few of the planes that were at the airfield, not all of them in the show. Wednesday, 21 May 2014. And a piec...

Irenenenene: May 2013

Wednesday, 29 May 2013. My life at the moment is in slow-motion. I go to work, I read, I sleep, I go to work. On weekends I see friends, pehaps sew a little, read some more and generally veg on the couch. Ahhhh, the life of a single person. I have sewn the top of the quilt, but I need a bit of a contraption (or a volounteer) to hold it up to get a picture. I have also, after a few months of searching for the right fabric, finished my "I got wings" jacket. Soon to be worn in public. A: no, they are ovals!
