Thoughts from Thinking Horses

Thoughts from Thinking Horses. Sunday, June 20, 2010. I quickly stand up in the knee deep water. The horse I had just been on top of, JJ, a chestnut Arab gelding, about 15 hands tall, is looking down his long nose, his ears and eyes asking “what are you doing down there? I was able to see a further learning opportunity that I hadn’t planned. Being flexible or being able to change what we are doing when we see a chance to, is a very important skill in teaching horses. For that matter, the ab...Starting On...

Thoughts from Thinking Horses: Onyx

http://thoughtsfromthinkinghorses.blogspot.com/2010/05/onyx.html

Thoughts from Thinking Horses. Monday, May 31, 2010. Starting Onyx and one other horse, Socks, in their stall, was a real good learning experience for me. I learned some limitations of the stall and also that I could get some basic education done. It also cemented my opinion that starting in the round pen is more effective, though it may take a couple of hours all at once. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). To hold a Cats Tail. Words to live by. Love and Compassion are necessities not luxuries. Without them we cannot survive. Sunday, November 27, 2011. Quick note on the lost dog:. The owner saw the note (finally) I left on the bulletin board at the little convenience store here in Bay City. She called this morning. After 5 days, this afternoon we had a happy reunion! Patches is 12 years old; Shannon has had her from puppyhood. Shannon is mid-20s, a single mom with 3-year old twins and a lab pup. What a houseful! About once a ye...

Words to live by. Love and Compassion are necessities not luxuries. Without them we cannot survive. Sunday, December 18, 2011. Without a flock of grandpunks around, decorating for Christmas just doesn't happen with the same enthusiasm. We hang a stocking on the elk antlers, plug in the fiber optic tree, put on the festive holly tablecloth, make a swag for the porch - that's about it. 2nd day - 2 pounds of raisins (organic - HOW did they know? 3rd day - 3 pounds of almonds (RAW almonds, just the BEST!

Words to live by. Love and Compassion are necessities not luxuries. Without them we cannot survive. Friday, September 23, 2011. Mom and Dad planted this Brooks Plum tree in the back yard about 27 years ago, I think. Brooks make the best dried prunes you ever chewed on - like candy! At this stage, they are ALMOST ripe. A few are getting to the characteristic purpley-blue-black that means. We were generous, though. And managed to get our share, too. Those plums are the BEST. They are European p...While we ...

Words to live by. Love and Compassion are necessities not luxuries. Without them we cannot survive. Saturday, May 26, 2012. My dad, his parents, two of mom's sisters, and many many friends and acquaintances are buried at Sunset Heights just a few miles from Tillamook. At the cemetary, there is always a job of cleaning and tidying around the headstones - truely a labor of love. At the IOOF Cemetary near Idaville, I leave a small token of memories with Dennis' favorite color - orange. Thursday, May 17, 2012.

As Chris says, once you haul the boat out, the work begins. Stop by the launch on the Kilchis River to run the salt water out of the motor; clean the boat; clean the fish; clean the gear; put away the gear; put the boat (still hitched to truck) in the designated slot in the new pole barn; roll up the hose; clean the the cleaning area. Mighty nice - this...

Words to live by. Love and Compassion are necessities not luxuries. Without them we cannot survive. Monday, July 23, 2012. Don't mess with GG! OK, so I'm breaking my word - but I didn't cross my heart, so it's OK, right? The Coon Wars consist of many small skirmishes - some more dramatic than others. One day Mom and I were sitting at the dining room table playing crib, when we noticed a resident bandit was raiding the bird feeder - in broad daylight. Mom was appalled. Then she was mad! Sometime later, I ...

Random thoughts of a random person. Sunday, August 17, 2014. Never easy to come back to a life made only of work and little else, especially after spending many weeks with family and friends in places that fit me well. I understand here it is not easy, because Mobile is not walkable or bikeable, but at least for short distances and when it is possible.at least as providing a good example for the kids. Here you can have guns, shotguns, whatever you want, in your car or on you. Not an easy adjustment for a...

Thoughts from Thomas T. Thomas

Thoughts from Thomas T. Thomas. Sunday, August 16, 2015. Markets ’R’ Us. In this manner, like the impersonal forces of evolution, the market is an equal opportunity creator and destroyer. Nobody has a favored position. Nobody gets a free pass for life. Risk, reward, and retribution are distributed impartially—although, of course, that doesn’t keep people from trying to game the system. People are just so pesky! Now I am not such a Pollyanna about economics that I don’t see flaws in the system of op...
