Sewing Tips | threadsofwisdom
https://threadsofwisdom.wordpress.com/2012/03/06/sewing-tips
SCA research and projects. St Brigetta Coif 1. Green and Rust →. March 6, 2012. Here you will find information on sewing tips (as I, myself, learn them), information on Cutting on the Bias, Gores, French seams, as well as catridge pleats, box pleats and knife pleates. 1) Use sewing machine (or a serger, if you have one) and sew ZIG-ZAG stitching along the ends of material (where it was cut). This helps to prevent unraveling when washed. 5) Can use 3 oz. linen (napkin weight) for ALL chemises. Are used wi...

SCA research and projects. Sewing Tips →. St Brigetta Coif 1. February 29, 2012. At March Crown, 2011, I chatted with Baroness Sylvie le Chardonniere reguarding her St. Brigetta Cap. It is a simple head covering that I could wear at events. Taking quick notes, and examining hers, I was able to make me one. This entry was posted in St Brigetta Coif. Sewing Tips →. Tellerbarret | threadsofwisdom
https://threadsofwisdom.wordpress.com/2012/04/04/tellerbarret
SCA research and projects. April 4, 2012. I decided to use the four petal pattern, alternating the rust-green that is in my kampfrau; it will also have the square section on top. Below I have all the pieces cut out and one petal completed (image shows front and back sides of petal). I am using a wire for a stabalizer for the edges of each petal. Third, I sew the lining to the second petal piece (the rust), JUST inside the seam allowance. Making sure that the lining is on the WRONG side of the wool...

SCA research and projects. This is where I post about my embroidery projects, adventures in garment making and anything new that I learn reguarding my SCA exploits. I am in the process of planning and making a German kampfrau (in wool), but, waiting for all my wool to arrive, I will keep busy with my other embroidery projects and working on the linen accessories for my German garb. SCA research and projects. April 4, 2012. A tellerbarret is the large, floppy brimmed hats with the ostrich plumes decorating it. It is, sometimes, referred to as a pizza hat. It can have a round brim (plain, slashed, or gathered), a brim made with two half circles, … Continue reading →. March 29, 2012. NOTE: Wear the correct accessories that go with your period clothes. Skjodehamn Over-Tunic: part one | Maniacal Medievalist

Aka Esperanza de Navarra. Loving all things Medieval, especially the clothing! July 28, 2015. Skjodehamn Over-Tunic: part one. I’ve been working on translating Gjessing’s and Lølvid’s work on the Skoldehamn tunics for a project for a friend. Both are written in Norwegian, and I am still trying to get the hang of the way direct and indirect objects are treated in Norsk. Thus my work has been slow going. I am finally finished with translating the over-tunic (kofta) sections! The one drafted by Marc Carlson?

Aka Esperanza de Navarra. Loving all things Medieval, especially the clothing! March 30, 2015. I’ve spent a good part of the last week translating the chapter on the Birka girl’s new clothes from the book Birka Nu. At first, I was translating it simply because I want the information. I wanted to know what the writers were saying about the pretty pictures. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). Share on Facebook (Opens in new window). “Some Kind of Metal Closure” | Maniacal Medievalist

Aka Esperanza de Navarra. Loving all things Medieval, especially the clothing! July 17, 2015. 8220;Some Kind of Metal Closure”. After hours of frustration, I was thinking of writing a book on clasps used with Viking clothing and titling it Some Kind of Metal Closure, because even in the well written and well documented books on Viking-age clothing, when it comes to detailing out what closes the neckline of a tunic, they nearly all say it was closed with some kind of metal closure! Translating Articles not in Your Native Reading Language | Maniacal Medievalist

Aka Esperanza de Navarra. Loving all things Medieval, especially the clothing! July 22, 2015. Translating Articles not in Your Native Reading Language. For a while, I have been researching Viking-age clothing and textiles. Fascinating stuff! Not meant sarcastically at all! However (now that’s just a fancy BUT! Most of the writing on Viking-age archaeology, especially on the textile finds, is NOT in English. So how do I, as a researcher, garner information from these foreign written texts? Seriously, I ha...

Threads of Us
Tuesday, October 5, 2010. Okay So it's finally warming up and coming out of Winter, and Billy is seriously lacking shorts. Simple solution, make some! I had a look at what patterns I had, but I didn't want a pair of time consuming, overly detailed shorts this time. I wanted something simple, basic and quick to make. Surprisingly, none of my patterns fit the bill! Although the fabric looks quite shiny, it is only drill from SL, but the pocket is quilting cotton received yesterday from HT. After working ma...

Wednesday, July 11, 2012. We arrived in Rome early afternoon by train. Rome welcomed us with her stifling heat. The apartment we stayed at was called Clover and run by a hostel called the Beehive. I totally recommend either place for anyone wanting to travel on a budget. Central room at Clover - great place to trade traveling ideas with the other guests. The Spanish Steps and the cute Fountain of the Old Boat. Trevi Fountain - lots of other people liked this as well.there were people everywhere! We sat o...

Threads of Wonder
Saturday, April 3, 2010. I began this blog as a place to focus on the wonderful things in my life and I really have taken too long of a break here. Not because there weren't amazing things happening, but maybe because I was too caught up in life to see them. It is time for me to put down the blinders and start documenting the light and love that flows through all things. Posted by Threads of Inspiration. Links to this post. Monday, September 14, 2009.
