Through The Eyes of Our Grandparents

Through The Eyes of Our Grandparents. Friday, August 5, 2016. Ritual has been a part of daily life since the beginning of time and our grandparents were no different. We may believe that their lives reflected a series of habits, but in actuality, they were daily rituals that gave meaning to their existence. Take a look at the average American farmer in the early 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The simple act of rising each morning, and sharing a cup of coffee or breakfast before work was ritual. Yet, no ...

Through The Eyes of Our Grandparents: 2014

http://throughtheeyesofourgrandparents.blogspot.com/2014

Through The Eyes of Our Grandparents. Sunday, November 30, 2014. Decorating For The Solitary Christmas. As a child, and even as a young adult, I didn't understand why my grandmothers, or other elderly people, didn't decorate for Christmas. Generally, they made the excuse that they didn't want to get "all that stuff out". But as I have grown and my life has gone down a similar path, I understand now why they didn't. It was like walking through a child's coloring book. My other grandmother brought out item...

Through The Eyes of Our Grandparents. Friday, July 8, 2016. Oatmeal - Still A Great Survival Food! If you had a grandmother like mine, you know that oatmeal played a huge part of survival food. Through The Eyes of Our Grandparents: September 2015

http://throughtheeyesofourgrandparents.blogspot.com/2015/09

That's a hefty amount of folks. In the 1950s and early 60s, (and truth be known, long before that), evenings in a household were spent communing. Men worked on hobbies. And children did homework and/or played on the floor. For those who enjoyed stories, people took turns reading, and imagining it within their thoughts. By the 1970s, we ...

Through The Eyes of Our Grandparents. Friday, July 22, 2016. Women In Flour Sacks - Bringing Color To Their Lives. My parents were born in 1923, and though my father was an only child, my mother was one of eight. Heading into the Great Depression, she was never going to have the opportunities that my father had and my grandmother had to be overly creative just to put food on the table once or twice a day. In the Old Photo Archive. At the link below, please enjoy the short history and photos regarding flo...

Through The Eyes of Our Grandparents: It's Not My Responsibility

http://throughtheeyesofourgrandparents.blogspot.com/2016/04/its-not-my-responsibility.html

Through The Eyes of Our Grandparents. Saturday, April 9, 2016. It's Not My Responsibility. His children popped in last night. They didn’t bring any either. I helped him collect some Thursday evening. It doesn’t make me a hero – it makes me a neighbor. I recall the days my father or mother would receive a phone call and the next thing they would say was, “Put your shoes on. We’re going to (fill in the blank) house.” There was something that needed addressed and they needed help. April 9, 2016 at 9:27 PM.

Through My Eyes

Thursday, December 14, 2006. Out with a bang! Five hundred days ago. It's hard to believe five hundred days have passed since the first posting. Of my 365 (now 500) day project. in the past five hundred days, i've met some amazing people, photographed old and young, big and small, shy and crazy, landscapey and close to homey, and everything in between. To celebrate my final posting, i decided to go out with a bang! Mikey was one of the pyrotechnicians for this shoot. This 500 day project is complete!

This site is about sharing stories about living with a rambunctious Parson's Russell Terrier. March 21, 2012. Shine and the Snakes! And then if that weren’t enough – things went from great to extremely wonderful in a short time! Who knew that Lowe’s carried Shine’s favorite squeak toy! Still, under that little hat is the same green or orange snake that we have come to love. Now, what is the big deal about the little Santa hat? Shine stuck fast as a snake – at the snake -and had it back in the card ...
