Ecstasy | Through the Porthole
https://throughtheporthole.wordpress.com/2011/04/07/ecstasy
Reviews and thoughts on film and theatre. Ecstasy, written and directed by Mike Leigh. With Siân Brooke, Allan Leech, Sinéad Matthews and Craig Parkinson. Hampstead Theatre, 10 March – 9 April 2011. Mike Leigh is now an established veteran of British film and theatre. When he first wrote and directed Ecstasy in 1979 his place was not yet guaranteed, but in it are moments of such emotional truth so subtly and deftly portrayed that theatregoers must have known where he was destined. Decline and Fall | Through the Porthole
https://throughtheporthole.wordpress.com/2011/01/09/decline-and-fall
Reviews and thoughts on film and theatre. Decline and Fall by Evelyn Waugh. Adapted for the stage by Henry Filloux-Bennett. With Michael Lindall, Sylvester McCoy, Jonathan Hansler, Fay Downie, Emily Murphy, Morgan Thomas and Owen Roberts. Old Red Lion Theatre, 30 Nov 2010 – 29 Jan 2011. This adaptation of Decline and Fall, in fact this whole genre of theatre feels like T.V for the upper classes. It is not particularly well observed satire and there’s no meaningful or incisive drama. Reviews and thoughts on film and theatre. I’ve been watching…. On Monday, Rio Bravo (1959) directed by Howard Hawks. An entirety typical and entirely watchable John Wayne classic. On Tuesday La Règle du jeu (1939) directed by Jean Renoir. A satirical portrait of the French aristocracies moral turpitude. On Wednesday Hell Comes to Frogtown (1988) directed by Donald G. Jackson. It’s a crappy, but sort of fun, cult effort at post apocalyptic misogynist mutant soft porn. Laquo; Decline and Fall.

Reviews and thoughts on film and theatre. I’ve been watching…. Directed by John Huston, 1950. Bank jobs, hoodlums with a heart, and a film noir where the police were always going to get their man. Exploring the natural world around us. Bunny Old Wood on a beautiful Sunday. Derbyshire Dales →. July 4, 2010. This summer wild flowers have been catching my eye. I think it’s since I went on a walk with my sister in Gloucestershire in early May. Her knowledge and interest in the little colourful things round our feet nudged mine, and so they’ve just stood out a little bit more that normal. And it’s a member of the Cranesbill family, perhaps unsurprisingly. View all posts by daisiesanddandelions →. You a...

Derbyshire Dales | Daisies and Dandelions
https://daisiesanddandelions.wordpress.com/2010/08/07/derbyshire-dales
Exploring the natural world around us. August 7, 2010. I’ve been working on a film shooting in the beautiful Dales of Derbyshire, near to the river Dove which marks the boundary with Staffordshire. We’ve been centred round Longnor, a historic market town which still boasts three pubs despite a tiny population. Doubtless they’re kept open by the hordes of holidaymakers that come to the area. So, the milking! Along the verges and in the fields the flowers I’ve noticed most have been Hairbells, and my...

Exploring the natural world around us. Mulleins and Skippers →. Hebrides and Ben Nevis. February 8, 2011. I was back up in Scotland for a few days last week and it was wonderful as ever. We took the Caledonian Sleeper which is the night train that pulls out from Euston at 8.50pm each evening, and deposited us in Fort William a little after 9am. We couldn’t have been luckier with the weather; a January holiday to Scotland is a gamble but we drew aces. View all posts by daisiesanddandelions →. Enter your e...

Scotland | Daisies and Dandelions
https://daisiesanddandelions.wordpress.com/2010/08/26/scotland
Exploring the natural world around us. Hebrides and Ben Nevis →. August 26, 2010. We went on a trip to Scotland. We went to Skye, then I changed holiday crew and went on up the west coast to the far north accompanied by my sister. To Tongue. Cape Wrath. The trip took 11 days. We were camping in the van. It was bloody fantastic. And the Midge! Scotland is beautiful. I forget, and then on driving down Glen Coe rediscover it all over again, and wonder why I ever go anywhere else. Exploring the natural world around us. Hebrides and Ben Nevis. June 13, 2011. Yesterday, walking down an overgrown track in Norfolk I saw lots of a furry, orange butterfly I couldn’t name. They turned out to be Large Skippers. They have a big body, and are quite fuzzy all over. Their wings sit as a moth’s do or similarly, with the lower wing furled beneath the upper. Their antennae are stripy, black and yellow. View all posts by daisiesanddandelions →. This entry was posted in Butterflies. Create a free ...

The Movement if it existed would be dedicated to the de-institutionalization of learning. It would seek to honour rational thinking beyond the constraints of dogma, propaganda and existing social and political institutions. It would be partially based in discovering the insights hidden in the works of such unlikely bedfellows as Ivan Illich, Saul Alinsky and Joseph Heller. It would seek to raise the endless global electronic chatter above the level of mind-numbing triviality.

Sunday, March 30, 2014. Spicejet on occasion of Holi, entertained and surprised passengers of six of their flights by doing a Bollywood number " Balam Pitchkari" in cruising aircraft.
