Published February 22, 2015. As was mentioned in the other posts and articles I’d read, the visual element is important for the end-users to easily read and understand (I LOVED Schrock’s section in the video about teaching students about colors and fonts– so important in more realms than just infographics) without any explanation. You should be able to see an infographic and “get it”. Https:/ magic.piktochart.com/output/4647645-ahs-library. Larr; Thing 23: Makerspaces. Thing 25: Powering Up the Browser.

Thing 25: Powering Up the Browser. Published March 2, 2015. I tried a bit of everything, but of course the first thing I did was check out some themes. I changed mine to a Northern Lights theme and while I like it when I’m hitting a new tab open, I’m not sure I’m digging the transparency of my tabs and bookmarks. I’m going to give this a few weeks to really have it to decide whether or not to keep it. An extension that I’ve used for a while was installed after we got Chromecast for our home. We...You are...

Published April 18, 2015. I probably spent twenty minutes taking in the immensity of information on the LibGuides. That is a goldmine of resources and information! For the teachers to play in the classrooms. I admit it’s not the best, so if I’m doing multiple videos for different grade levels, I want them all to be visually stimulating, upbeat, and informative. That was my one annoyance was the willy-nilly way that people could add notes, but seeing that there’s the option of the free form, grid, or stream that allows for visual organization, and that makes me happy. Published January 24, 2015. What an appropriate topic considering my colleague and I have had some discussions about how to move this forward in our high school library. We actually already created a board of makerspace ideas. And I was even more excited about what we’d pinned after watching the Makerspace Boot Camp. Because again, it’s starting off small and to evaluate what the students want rather than what the librarian thinks the students want. I’ll be excited to share the details of our plann...

I have never done anything with computer coding before, so I must admit I wasn’t too excited about trying this out. However, I went into the Code.org site and tried the Hour of Code tutorial. It was a lot of fun! April 17, 2014. April 17, 2014. Example of a poster from ReciteThis. April 6, 2014. April 6, 2014. This week’s task was a lot of fun! What a great resource…for both teachers and parents!

Just another WordPress.com site. February 23, 2017. Our school embraced the concept of makerspaces as learning spaces and decided to venture forth with implementing a makerspace this past summer. We approached it with a team of teachers, including myself, and decided to implement it in an unused classroom that connected to the library. We have been learning a lot in our first year of operating such space, with both successes and noted areas in need of improvement. Thing 14: News Literacy. February 5, 2017.

Just another WordPress.com site. Thing 10: Future Trends. June 2, 2011. I do like the idea of having the technology to offer users in the library access to such tools as audio/video production, video theaters, working studios, etc. I do think that libraries will still need to fill the role of equalizing access to information and technology between the wealthy and the poor, especially with the current economic trends. Maker spaces seem to connect perfectly with 21st Century Learning Skills… And seem to be the exact opposite of what has happened to classroom teaching with APPR and Common Core! Would students actually be able to use it during a school day with the tight scheduling already in place or would it have to be afterschool? And, how would I manage it with all of my current demands and responsibilities? February 6, 2015.
