urban surgery: March 2008

http://timranck.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Advising by John Pron, Andrew Hart and Lisa Armstrong. Friday, March 14, 2008. Every piece of program. Reactions from mid jury. Metaphor - seems the juries keep getting lost in the translation between the surgery and the architecture. Need to keep constructing it to identify key elements-its more then just stitching. How the identity of the users match the actions of the program. Users activate the site - turn it off and on. Why this building on site? Question kept being asked. How does user aquire them.

urban surgery: February 2008

http://timranck.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Advising by John Pron, Andrew Hart and Lisa Armstrong. Monday, February 18, 2008. Sunday, February 17, 2008. Old cities have existing layers and overlaid patterns of spatial and conceptual order. There exists within these layers an urban fabric, a more intimate scale of complexity that’s serves as a point of origin for a new urban fabric. Friday, February 15, 2008. 1 Resolution: Dead cellular material and debris are removed by phagocytosis and the tissue is left with its original architecture intact.

Thesis Excerpts of Interest. Ryan Drummond asked, Why the ocean? The ocean is the only earthly environment which man cannot overpower, the ocean belittles man. 8220;our tools are always deployed in the service of some philosophy or ideology. If we are to use our tools in the service of fitting in on Earth, our basic relationship to nature- even the story we tell ourselves about who we are in the universe has to change.” Janine Benyus. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Thesis Statement: Systems Integration. Architecture in its current state is isolated because it does not recognize itself as an adaptive system within a larger constantly evolving network. Subtractive, analytical processes serve to isolate the subject from the very factors which define them, while systemic processes derive order from cooperative interaction with dynamic systems. I do not know what I may appear to the world; but to myself I seem to have been only like a...

Paul Sheaffer // Architecture Thesis: February 2008

http://psheaffer.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Paul Sheaffer / Architecture Thesis. Monday, February 18, 2008. Way too long updated Abstract. Still roughing this out. Monument is an evocative and artistic form of architecture tied heavily to cultural memory; architecture for the public good. The monumental built form reflects the aspirations of the time; it ranges from colossal gestures of social prosperity to a quiet remembrance of passing. What is today’s monumental social concern? Living sustainably is not just turning the lights off and recycling...

design + affect: 3/4 Jury

http://designandaffect.blogspot.com/2008/04/34-jury.html

For final jury I need to be more rigorous about the architectural representation of the project. I think the idea of breaking up the vertical presentation format with analytiques or moments of deeper exploration was a good suggestion to bring real intensity to the somewhat fantastical subject matter. This type of analysis will lead to a better understanding of the true nature of social interaction in the spaces and their relationships to one another, keeping in mind fluidity, displacement and also the ex...
