Man About Brockley: Summertime...
http://manaboutbrockley.blogspot.com/2011/08/summertime.html
Tuesday, 16 August 2011. An unusually high view of the garden. Since it's summer, it can only be time to replace the shattered and crumbling slates on our back roof. The view is from the scaffolding. Only M dared go up here though. Wouldn't catch me doing that. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Subscribe To My Posts. Share my stuff (if you like.). Festa, Folkestone Gardens. Man About Brockley: May 2010
http://manaboutbrockley.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, 9 May 2010. Sausages after a long weekend of house stuff. Kicking back with a pint of Old Speckled Hen, Pink Floyd on the stereo, waiting for something wonderful to come out of the oven. Been a fairly busy weekend. We recently had the Gas Networks guys out to sort out a legacy of this house once being flats, or maybe bedsits. We had a live gas supply going up into the 1st floor with no means of isolating it, plus two really unpretty gas pipes going up the walls. For this, chop up 4 onions quite r...

Man About Brockley: August 2010
http://manaboutbrockley.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Monday, 30 August 2010. What's been going on between May and August. Well, it's been a very long time since my last post. Very long. Little and often is the sort of unofficial motto of bloggers everywhere, but I haven't even managed that! Here is what our front room looked like when we got medieval on it. Since we're talking medieval, the latin. Kind of works as a description:. And here is what it looked like half way. Highlights of this phase (personally speaking) were:. Highlights of this last phase?

Man About Brockley: Grill a Chef
http://manaboutbrockley.blogspot.com/2011/06/grill-chef.html
Monday, 27 June 2011. I'm in New York for a couple of weeks for work. Today for a bit of down time we popped down to New Amsterdam Market just West of the Financial District to check out what foodie delights you can get around these parts these days. We met this guy there:. Is fantastic with loads of ideas and step by step pictures. I hope he opens a restaurant - I know where I'd rather go. For now the rich folks in Manhattan have the monopoly, but hopefully not for much longer. Subscribe To My Posts.

Man About Brockley: Those beguiling aubergines
http://manaboutbrockley.blogspot.com/2011/01/those-beguiling-aubergines.html
Saturday, 29 January 2011. I mentioned a while back that aubergines were a little strange - not really solo superstars, but great when accompanied with things. Well, courtesy of Yotam Ottolenghi (again. bit of a theme here - our friend Man About Perth gave us his book as a leaving present before he returned to . Perth, and we're very grateful! We had a shot at chilli marinaded aubergines. Like the best of Ottolenghi's recipes, this one's a bit fiddly but totally stunning. 30 April 2011 at 07:29. Happy Ne...

Man About Brockley: September 2010
http://manaboutbrockley.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Monday, 13 September 2010. Amazing things with hazlenuts and berries. On a trip up north visiting friends and family in Scotland, we popped in to see my good friend K and Man About Bathgate. Some friends you just pick up where you left off and it's like no time has passed. Fantastic. One thing I had slightly forgotten was how good at cooking they both are. And then. the most impressive cake with red berries with redcurrants and mint. M and I just couldn't help ourselves with the camera. Interim consultin...

Man About Brockley: November 2010
http://manaboutbrockley.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 17 November 2010. If you're anything like me, it feels like it has gotten very cold way too quickly. It seems like no time at all since we were doing stuff outside, enjoying sunshine and such things. So to try to bring this back to life, here's a photo of just one day's harvest from our amazing little Victoria plum tree in the garden:. Missing the plums, missing Autumn. Man About Brockley: February 2010
http://manaboutbrockley.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, 28 February 2010. Another weekend, another new skill. Well, it's been a busy weekend. Decided that some of our floorboards really needed some attention - that much sagging couldn't be healthy. So the day started with a trip to Howarth Timber and Building Merchants. A cornerstone of probably one of the worst traffic complexes in all of London - Brockley Cross. You wouldn't have thought that much chaos could be engineered in such a small space. And yet. Monday, 22 February 2010. Anyway, one thing t...

Man About Brockley: In Praise of Stephen King
http://manaboutbrockley.blogspot.com/2011/01/in-praise-of-stephen-king.html
Sunday, 16 January 2011. In Praise of Stephen King. Just finished reading Under The Dome. The latest from a long-time favourite of mine, Stephen King. For some reason that I can't quite explain, I've always had a real respect for his writing, probably ever since reading Pet Semetary under the covers as a young teenager being utterly terrified, then reading Misery while supposed to be revising for exams and being . utterly terrified. Actually maybe I am - although the veneer may be thriller / horror / gor...
