There are many that you look at and go “What the heck does THAT mean? 8221; when you read them. While these comments are designed to help the new writer, they don’t always give the full details of what they mean. For some writers, their greatest...

The Pen vs the Sword: The Pattern leads to the Matrix…
http://swordsvspens.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-pattern-leads-to-matrix.html
The Pen vs the Sword. A writer offers thoughts for others wishing to follow a similar journey. The Pattern leads to the Matrix…. Okay, so I’m being a little goofy with my title today. However, I’m trying to make a point with it. The big thing the machines tried to build into the Matrix was an easily followed routine, a pattern that they could control. http://swordsvspens.blogspot.com/2013/07/the-character-quirk.html
The Pen vs the Sword. A writer offers thoughts for others wishing to follow a similar journey. There are books and blogs out there that suggest adding a quirk to a character to enhance it and make it seem more real to the reader. This is good advice, but it shouldn’t stop there. To me, this is my big important thought: BE CAREFUL WHAT QUIRK YOU CHOSE! Okay, so what set me off on this tangent, you might ask, because it doesn’t have the normal playful feel of my usual posts? Yeah, it set me off. Has Dustin...

The Pen vs the Sword: How Sketchy is Your Character?
http://swordsvspens.blogspot.com/2013/06/how-sketchy-is-your-character.html
The Pen vs the Sword. A writer offers thoughts for others wishing to follow a similar journey. How Sketchy is Your Character? There are some things to consider when dealing with characters. Not everyone will believe in this concept, but let me offer this as a thought process at least. Let me talk a little about how we drain the reservoir. For writers, it’s easy, really. We write. Okay, so that’s how we drain it. Now how do we refill it? Here is where it varies from person to person. For a lot of ...
