Adventures in Plaquemines Parish

Adventures in Plaquemines Parish. Thursday, July 7, 2011. So long and thanks for all the fish. I cannot understate how great it is to have friends like Natasha and Camay who live in NYC with whom I can spend a couple of days with before heading home to Happy Valley (a 4 hour bus ride). It's amazing to see how much has been done in the last month! When I first arrived, this is what the Orangewood house looked like:. Yesterday it looked like this:. Adventures in Plaquemines Parish: Reworking

http://www.toffeeswamp.blogspot.com/2011/06/reworking.html

Adventures in Plaquemines Parish. Thursday, June 30, 2011. I feel really odd today because I'm not used to being in air-conditioning during the day. Man and if you want an indicator of how busy things are around here, I haven't talked much to Kim in the last 3 days even though we share a room! Partially because I ka-pow and go to bed pretty early. Also Peter and I did a Home-Depot (and smoothie) run up in Belle Chasse yesterday. My Undergrad Texas blog. My Penn State blog. Port Sulfur Baptist Church.

Adventures in Plaquemines Parish: progress and good times

http://www.toffeeswamp.blogspot.com/2011/07/week-in-review.html

Adventures in Plaquemines Parish. Sunday, July 3, 2011. Progress and good times. As an example of how fast progress has been, here are some photos. This was the interior of Orangewood on Monday morning :. This is what it looked like on Friday afternoon:. These were the side stairs on Monday:. Frank and I put up the railings, and the kids. Did a great job of putting in the pickets. The elevator at Orangewood is going to be installed this week, and the kids poured concrete for the base. It's not just been ...

Adventures in Plaquemines Parish: Week 3!

http://www.toffeeswamp.blogspot.com/2011/06/week-3.html

Adventures in Plaquemines Parish. Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Zack on the screw gun, Darius on the drill, Tyler on the staple gun and Felicia holding up the pickets. Felicia using the router to bevel wood. As in the ladder on the 2nd floor deck got blown off, and trash bins were flying across the street. We called it a day at noon and went home. We have been sitting around in the dining hall playing cards ever since. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's dedication ceremony at Pam's house! My Undergrad Texas blog.

Adventures in Plaquemines Parish: weekend in review

http://www.toffeeswamp.blogspot.com/2011/06/weekend-in-review.html

Adventures in Plaquemines Parish. Tuesday, June 21, 2011. The end of week 2 was pretty chill. Friday involved finishing up some odds and ends, and I taught Kim how to make railings. Starting on the last side of the house. Putting up stair legs. Kim building the banister. I also sawed out the elevator shaft (these homeowners are handicapped). Walking down the levee next to Malcolm's kampong. Pete and Peter sitting on Malcolm's porch eating pecans. Pete lives in his own trailer on Malcolm's property. On Su...

the rest is just whatever: October 2010

http://toffeeorange.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

The rest is just whatever. Deep in the heart of fall. Did some research and found out that I get paid less than the maximum amount people on unemployment benefits in California can get. That's okay, because the cost of living here is low, and life is rich, bubbling to the brim and overflowing! Anyway, my job next year is going to pay me 5-6 times more than now. The Hartman Conference and Retreat Center. Laura, Adam and Josey during breakfast. PSCG folk having lunch. Becca checking out a bird box. In othe...

the rest is just whatever: May 2011

http://toffeeorange.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

The rest is just whatever. I anticipate baking at least a hundred cupcakes this weekend for the 2 cookouts, baptisms and my upcoming defense! For my practice defense yesterday I made 3 types of cupcakes - applesauce, nutella and peanut butter, and strawberry. I initially thought this would be a wedding in the middle of the boonies, but Isaac, the Hollemans and myself somehow had a gazillion adventures in 3 days. This included. Laughing about the world not ending on Saturday. Having the cook at the Virgin...

the rest is just whatever: spring things

http://toffeeorange.blogspot.com/2011/05/spring-things.html

The rest is just whatever. We are in spring, or perhaps summer. The weather has been spectacular and a great respite from the rain of the last few weeks. A lot has been going on, as befitting of summer - softball practice, biking, baking, hiking, attempts at tennis, going to parties/dinners/gatherings - so there's a lot to be thankful for. Even though some of those dinners were farewell dinners. Ark, Dimitri, me, Annie, Esther, Jodie, May and Jim. Jin, Nilla, Hyeri, Kristen, Mike, Myro, Me and PDan.

The rest is just whatever. Ps People who say the countryside is boring are completely out of their minds and are the same people who run into quarter-life and mid-life crisis because they are inherent boring people unable to seize opportunities. Also, people need to realize that sometimes, you don't just wait for opportunities - you create them. Briefly, I'm going to show y'all how a sawmill on the K-Farm works. You can see the flat top of the wood now. This trunk is going to be turned into. I'm on a pec...

The rest is just whatever. Nate and Nora at Dartmouth College, on the way to lunch. The undergrads at Dartmouth are way more conservative than our Penn State kids. It was a pretty warm day but all the kids on the lawn were wearing t-shirts and shorts. Back at Penn State the kids have been taking everything off (guys shirtless and girls in bikinis). Down on Cape Cod. We showed up in Boston just in time to help Tabby pack. The USPO in Beacon Hill. No roadtrip is without misadventure. From your own site.

The rest is just whatever. The last blog post. I've decided to start a new blog to mark the post-defense, pre-employment interim period right here. Kat at David K's Vista. Whipple Dam State Park. The latest Gnome in the forest. The good times roll. Memorial Day Weekend, and this past week, was highly enjoyable and memorable on at least two fronts. We will do this in chronological order. The rest is just whatever. Alrighty. since my advisor has neglected to read my drafts, which have been in his hands since the beginning of summer, I'm going on strike and am going to go off to a small farm with a cute name (Over-the-Moon Farm) on Thursday. I will be helping to take the chickens to the butcher and cleaning out the chicken pens. It should be an interesting life experience. And hard filthy work! I would like to live on a farm for a while. the rest is just whatever: November 2010

http://toffeeorange.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

The rest is just whatever. It's amazing how things can change in half a decade. Just 6 years ago I was spending Thanskgiving in Monterrey with the Villarreal family and it was clean, safe and a fun city to hang out in. Now. Last night, on the way back to Oneonta,NY from Stockbridge,MA after Thanksgiving dinner, crammed in the backseat of the Toombs' small car with Becca, Keith and a mountain of pillows, I thought I must be the most privileged person in the world. Not one of the most. The most. The 3rd Th...

houston calling

Thursday, October 29, 2015. Why am I sick again? I have some kind of throat virus. And, why is it whenever I go to see a doctor, they tell me home care is sufficient, but when I don't go to see a doctor I end up in the ER? Monday, October 26, 2015. San Antonio, mostly. Following that, Anne drove us up to Boerne where we went to a beer garden. This beer garden, called Random, lives up to its namesake by being located in a very random location in the middle of nowhere, yet offers 80 beers on tap! This week...

The life & tails of an adored chihueagle

The life and tails of an adored chihueagle. Tuesday, November 29, 2011. Dad and his cheerleaders (pre-race). I know I know long time no read - I've been very busy catching up on my beauty sleep, really. This past summer my brother Riley and I went up to Maine to cheer our dad who was participating in a triathlon called the "Lobsterman Triathlon." I truly believe that if it weren't for us calming his nerves pre-race he would have been very nervous indeed. Picture from the start of the race. Do you know WHO.
