To Keep Things Whole: October 2014

http://tokeepthingswhole.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 27, 2014. Since I attended the fantastic Changing the Odds conference put on by The Momentous Institute. During the conference many clear themes emerged, but one stands out in how it has resonated since then. Empathy. The concept is simple enough. And in education one would expect loads of it wafting through our schools like enticing bakery smells. Like so many things, however, the theory is simple. The practice is not. So what trips us up? Well, I don't think there is a single answer to ...

To Keep Things Whole: December 2014

Thursday, December 18, 2014. Single Tweet Spurs Big Thoughts. Reporter. Pretty darned cool! That question is borderline rhetorical, except that I think it begs many others, beginning with "Should it? Any regular readers know my answers. The point is that the possibilities should be driving us to ask such questions continually. How, to use the Quaker saying, does my life speak? I know I've rambled in this post, and I hope it makes sense. Maybe there are bits and pieces of something slightly profund&#4...

Wednesday, September 17, 2014. Not Either/Or; but Yes, And. Perhaps. Then one would have to be wrong, and both had very valid points. Yet in many cases one side viewed the other only with disdain, rather than with an open mind that would enable integrating the two in a way that woudl work. They thus missed an opportunity to reach more children through effective differentiation. Posted by Mark Crotty. St Johns Episcopal School Dallas. Monday, September 8, 2014. To Keep Things Whole: Do We Expect Too Much of Leaders?

http://tokeepthingswhole.blogspot.com/2015/06/do-we-expect-too-much-of-leaders.html

Friday, June 26, 2015. Do We Expect Too Much of Leaders? But recent events beg a larger question for me about leadership: Do we expect too much of our leaders? Perhaps a better way to ask that would be: Are we fair in our expectations of our leaders? Posted by Mark Crotty. St Johns Episcopal School Dallas. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Racial Bias in Preschool | A Teaching Life

https://mcedmonds.wordpress.com/2016/10/21/racial-bias-in-preschool

Teaching, learning, living, and more. October 21, 2016. Racial Bias in Preschool. It’s been a busy month for me, and I’ve started to develop a backlog of potential posts. Here’s an idea from almost a month ago (! On my way into school, I heard this piece on NPR: “Racial Bias Isn’t Just a Police Problem, It’s a Preschool Problem”. That teachers are often implicitly biased in their classroom discipline. Here’s the gist of the study, and the kernel of the findings:. Behavior in the classroom. Sometimes ...

My studio is unusually clean for this point before I have a show that opens. I’m in good shape and it seems that its just a matter of tying up loose ends. a tastier speech: happy new year!

http://atastierspeech.blogspot.com/2011/01/happy-new-year.html

Saturday, January 1, 2011. Last night, we made pizzas and watched Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. Which was surprisingly good. The best part, though, was watching Mac imitate the owls' expressions. The pizza dough was from this recipe. And is so easy to make. I double it for either two large or four small pizzas. After adding sauce, toppings and covering with cheese, I brush the edges with olive oil and sprinkle with just a bit of course salt. I'm going to try the 365 photo project. A shor...

a tastier speech: January 2010

http://atastierspeech.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 30, 2010. What a week. Busy; the days passed in a blur. We're starting the weekend with one kid fighting a cold and an irritating PayPal/USPS issue rearing its head again. So, let's introduce lightness into this cold, grey day with popovers. Easy to make, crisp on the outside and doughy inside, they're delicious drizzled with honey. The ingredients and proportions are similar to crepes (more eggs, less butter), but they are baked in muffin tins and don't keep as well. I have two plants.

Monday, February 22, 2010. Who needs a Wii. When what they really want. Is a drained pool. Monday, February 15, 2010. All that remains to do on the Auction quilt. Is the binding. But after piecing and quilting, I'm thinking I need to change the blog name to the crooked quilter. Or maybe sew not straight. Who knew it could be so difficult to sew a (long) straight seem? I like the green of the back. The leftover will make a nice skirt. Monday, February 8, 2010. Saturday night we went to hear Greg Mortensen.

a tastier speech: August 2010

http://atastierspeech.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 11, 2010. It seems fitting to spend our annual week on the Alabama coast working on a skirt from the Alabama Stitch Book. My first foray into hand stitching, and love it. I cut the panels and stenciled them before leaving home. Now I spend lazy days on the back porch stitching around the stenciled designs and cutting out the shapes. On the horizon, tugs pull barges back and forth. Sometimes they go in circles. We suspect they're skimming for oil. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Saturday, April 10, 2010. The backyard has pretty much been put back together; we roasted marshmallows on a beautiful spring night last weekend. The roses are blooming, and they're beautiful. Actually, they're pulling down the fence, but that's another story. Here's to a weekend full of baseball, football and family. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
