Castles, Chateaux and Interesting Buildings. Wednesday, October 3, 2012. My companion’s espadrilles. Offered her little protection from the onslaught. The lighting within the narrow wall passages is better than dim but not by much, so those of a claustrophobic disposition may choose to get their pleasure from the exterior features. To enter the castle you must cross the water filled moat, sadly a feature lacking at so many other sites, though the wonderful Caerlaverock. Castle presents a fine example.

Castles, Chateaux and Interesting Buildings. Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Of course it is not a complete disappointment, sited as it is on the western shore of England's largest natural freshwater lake. Approached by single track road, a sign informs the visitor this is a National Trust property (since 1929). The grounds are fully accessible and are a delight, the building however is closed and in need of attention. I've found no evidence of wartime activity, may be it's a secret.
