I just want to take pictures: They may graduate me yet...
http://ijustwanttotakepictures.blogspot.com/2009/06/they-may-graduate-me-yet.html
Thursday, June 11, 2009. They may graduate me yet. An excerpt from "Mediations in Architecture and in the Urban Landscape" by Ignasi de Sola-Morales. Perhaps the veracity that we can concede to the media [graphic, literary, photographic], which enable us to acquire knowledge of architecture and urban landscapes, makes these media inescapable and essential to our approximation of this reality. I just want to take pictures: Regarding the last post...
http://ijustwanttotakepictures.blogspot.com/2009/06/regarding-last-post.html
Sunday, June 28, 2009. Regarding the last post. Don’t try and spot the core of the thesis. If you want a working thesis: We use photography as a stand-in for. Architecture; we are tourists in photography. Best thing to do is save the quote, so you can reflect on it, and keep. Working on the body of the thesis, in blocks.". Quote saved for reflection, working on body of thesis. Posted by white collar green soul. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Regarding the last post. They may graduate me yet.

I just want to take pictures: March 2009
http://ijustwanttotakepictures.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Left the house around 1pm and walked around North end of Galt for the first time (Wellington, Kerr, Beverly, etc.). Focused on residential details - yards, porches, sheds) using 35mm Pentax. (Result: Third contact sheet in this. I'd like to go at dawn and dusk for the next shoots to get different light. Photographed Royal Hotel wall w/ 120mm Mamiya for second mini-project. "We have a tendency to photograph things on their way out," (G. Sorbara). Exposure.not the case. Finished sh...

I just want to take pictures: Preface
http://ijustwanttotakepictures.blogspot.com/2009/06/preface.html
Tuesday, June 16, 2009. So it was brought to my attention that the "Introduction" I had written is actually a preface. So here it is, again, re-written and drastically shorter. There is a seduction in the opportunity to combine two passions and create something. Synthesizing the original two, the experience inevitably becomes a third passion or, even, an obsession. When I finally decided to photograph, it was through the experience of it, that I located my thesis and its relationship to architect...They ...

I just want to take pictures: July 2009
http://ijustwanttotakepictures.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 6, 2009. Here are some of the groups I've managed to create so far. some I like, some I don't. Following this are single photographs which I like and I am thinking some of them could be placed within the written essay. All the photographs are scanned contact sheets, so that is why the quality is rather low. These next three are all front doors/stoops, but I am trying to present them separately based on format as well as all together. But now I'm not sure sure. A collection of blank buildings.

I just want to take pictures: April 2009
http://ijustwanttotakepictures.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 30, 2009. The thesis is. the problem of what this is. Why" is the most subversive question. Don’t answer it. Is the 'construction' of a print, something I want to document/include in the thesis? Do I include contact sheets in the work? Are they my ‘sketches’ or diagrams? Do I include copies of historical photographs or just my own? What is the story I am trying to tell? What does it have to do with architecture? Where can I show my work? And can I do it in mid-July? I just want to take pictures: Intro... maybe.
http://ijustwanttotakepictures.blogspot.com/2009/06/intro-maybe.html
Wednesday, June 10, 2009. One of the reasons I chose to complete my Masters of Architecture at the University of Waterloo was because of the incredible freedom the curriculum offered. Architecture's potential field of study is massive. I was seduced by the idea that I could take something I was passionate about and create a thesis. This determined search for a thesis only confused and disoriented me more. Posted by white collar green soul. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Regarding the last post.

I just want to take pictures: May 2009
http://ijustwanttotakepictures.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 19, 2009. In light of our chat. Why do I have this strong idea about ‘no captions’ – about allowing the viewer, to choose, for himself, what the photograph means, is ‘saying, is of? Does someone write about this relationship? What do I think will change if I have captions? I seem to have a very strong idea bout the relationship of the viewer and the photo. Where does this idea come from? Will the experiences of the viewer change what he/she sees in my photo? Why manual darkroom work? How is ...

http://ijustwanttotakepictures.blogspot.com/2009/06/intro-round-two.html
Saturday, June 27, 2009. Although. the more I read it, the less I am sure about it. There is a seduction in the combination of two passions to create something new; synthesize the originals. The experience inevitably becomes a third passion or, sometimes, even an obsession. When I finally decided to photograph, through the experience of it, I located my thesis and made a relationship to architecture. Posted by white collar green soul. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
