While traveling, a word that you hear thrown around a lot is. 8220;This place is so. 8220;Ugh, that tour was so. This is largely due to the ruling military junta’s decades of isolating the country from the world. Over the last few years it has started to open up to the world, as well as introduce democracy through baby steps. A New York Times article from 2012 talked about the authen...Approaching...

Two Cups of Java. Amy and Will's Peace Corps Adventure in Indonesia. Skip to primary content. May 22, 2014. Since the New Year, we have been incredibly busy as we’ve tried to soak in everything we can before leaving Indonesia. Here are some of the highlights of those 5 months that didn’t make it to the blog:. At the end of January, our friends Jessica and Paul, who live in Kuala Lumpur came to visit. We spent a weekend as tourists in our own town as we explored all that Surabaya has to offer, includi...

For years now, I’ve loved elephants. I don’t know what it is about them that gets to me. Their size, their intelligence, their stories? So when we were looking at spending our tourist dollars in Thailand to see elephants I felt very strongly that we needed to do it the right way. You may have heard about Elephant Nature Park.

Well, we have officially been home now for a month, and we really hit the ground running. But before I get to that, I want to wrap up the end of our amazing six and a half week journey around Southeast Asia. And some members of Paul’s family. It was kind of a random assortment of people, but we really hit it off! View from below the Petronas Towers. Another Malaysian island. This time our ...

Two Cups of Java. Amy and Will's Peace Corps Adventure in Indonesia. Skip to primary content. July 26, 2014. One good thing that came our of our cancelled trip to Nepal was that we got to spend about two days in Singapore. Which we hadn’t planned on. My cousin Steve was staying with a childhood friend of his in Singapore while recovering from a broken ankle and we were lucky enough to stay there too. Despite being tired, we still had things to see! The iconic Marina Bay Sands hotel. We really got to see ...

In the land of dragons. Indonesia Travel Packing List. A Transformation Into a Balinese Lady. May 20, 2014. As things wind down, more and more people have taken to asking me if I have any regrets which I think is a mistranslation for an experience I never got to have while in Indonesia. It’s hard to think of anything (though I’m sure there are plenty), but while having this conversation with my friend, Bu … Continue reading →. Pemuteran in 10 Photos. March 17, 2014. Apr 30, 2013. Throwback post to PST in Batu, June 2012*. One of my clustermate’s families took us on an outing to a local “tourist object” (for some reason, Indonesians are taught that a tourist destination is a “tourist object” in English). This particular object was a waterfall called Coban Rondo. When we tried to find a place to picnic, the local monkey gang wanted in. I’m happy to report our group remained monkey bite free. Jun 26, 2012. Selamat datang di Ponorogo! These are my new digs:. Yuh It's way more posh than I expected. And way more private (huzzah! Although I don't really have a door to my floor so everyone can hear everything at all times. Anyway, this is how I was welcomed at my school, a public madrasah (Madrasah Aliya Negeri = MAN): A full-blown Reog Parade by students, replete with gifting of ceremonial scarf and belt by my principal. Ponorogo is the epicenter of Reog Culture. The mask weighs over 30 kilograms.

Two Cups of Flour
Tuesday, June 12, 2012. So, I love lemons. I especially love lemons when I can turn them into something sweet easily and without the use of an oven. Because as much as I love to bake, it can be time consuming and require way more effort than I'm willing to impart, whilst still desiring the yum. That brings me back to my original point; lemon things that don't require baking. This is the first post back after. a year? 250 g (one packet) wine biscuits. 1 c desiccated coconut. 1/2 c condensed milk. 5 Line a...

Saturday, June 20, 2015. Alex {Pearland Family Photographer}. Yep Little Gerber baby, huh? Look at those EYES! He's a doll and I loved taking his pictures! Lynn and Michael have just recently adopted this sweet little thing and they wanted to shout it from the mountain top. They are so proud! Can you see why? And let me just tell you how many blurry pictures I have of this little rocket. He's a fast one. Faster than my lenses (which is pretty darn fast). But I out smarted him a few times. Kim is an actre...
