http://namibianexperience.blogspot.com/2008/08/my-sister-mariam-visit-namibia-and-me.html
Sunday, August 31, 2008. My sister (Mariam) visits Namibia (and me! I have delayed in posting a new blog because quite frankly, I have been busy, but after a few reminders from friends, here it is (and a long one too, sorry! I figured there was about a 50% chance of disaster on this trip since my younger sister is used to all sorts of modern conveniences (like flushable toilets) and has a certain standard of hygiene and cleanliness (which is undoubtedly, much higher than mine). We stayed for 3 days and d...

Life in Namibia: March 2008
http://namibianexperience.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 28, 2008. Swakopmund, Easter Weekend, Coastal Town. In short, fantastic. It was like a mini-break from Africa (which I LOVE but really, sometimes you need a break). Http:/ www.flickr.com/photos/14582322@N06/. Tuesday, March 18, 2008. One thing that is a big adjustment for me is that crime is so commonplace compared to. Anyway, today was a sad day for me since I found out that 2 of my co-workers in the hospital are going to jail. They are both administrators, one female and one male. All I k...

Life in Namibia: June 2008
http://namibianexperience.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 16, 2008. A picture says a thousand words, so have a look at. Http:/ www.flickr.com/photos/14582322@N06/. Went to visit a friend in Gobabis. Ended up having a free meal at a Christian Mission 100km from town. Those priests eat well! The lions were an experience I can't even fully explain. We were put in a cage on the back of a pick-up truck then driven into the lion pen. They were sooo much larger than I had imagined, and so alive! Ciao for now,. Tuesday, June 3, 2008.

Life in Namibia: July 2008
http://namibianexperience.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 5, 2008. Just an update on the last few weeks:. The weather has now turned COLD. I think my body has adjusted to the warm African climate, because it always feels cold. I was wearing 3 layers, plus a sweater in the pharmacy, and when I checked the thermometer, it was only 20C. I’m sure not acting like a Canadian, eh? Anyway, last week-end went up north (above the redline, where only blacks used to live, and mostly still do) to Rundu. My first stop was Rundu beach. Was tempted to swim to.

Life in Namibia: November 2007
http://namibianexperience.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, November 24, 2007. Cultural Understanding (or, in my case, usually misunderstanding). During our training with VSO in Ottawa, they mentioned that culture is like an iceberg. Some norms, values, behaviors and beliefs are visible on the surface, but the vast majority are hidden. I have found this analogy to be very apt as I struggle and bumble my way through daily living with no pre-conceived ideas (at least initially) of what is right or wrong, or normal or abnormal here. Going Especially the go...

Sunday, February 24, 2008. Truth, as Ghada sees it. First, some housekeeping:. If everyone who writes an anonymous comment can please add their name at the bottom, it would make reading them that much more enjoyable for me. Things Ghada has accepted as truth, in. That cockroaches, spiders and mosquitos can teleport. There is no other way to explain how cockroaches can get inside my oven and fridge, or how spiders and mosquitos can get through a screen-covered window. Monogamy is always optional. I am THE...

Life in Namibia: Etosha National Park
http://namibianexperience.blogspot.com/2008/05/etosha-national-park.html
Sunday, May 4, 2008. Was one of the most vast, peaceful and beautiful places I've ever visited. We were told to NEVER get out of the car (since lions have been known to attack unsuspecting tourists) except in fenced-off areas around the lodges. Saw soo many animals, many were only 1 or 2 metres away! Surprisingly, it was really hard to not get out of the car and pet the animals, even the lions! Http:/ www.flickr.com/photos/14582322@N06/.
