Breaking down the front squat into its quarters | women's weightlifting
http://www.womensweightlifting.co.uk/breaking-front-squat-quarters
Weightlifting, strength training and olympic lifting for women. Breaking down the front squat into its quarters. I go through phases of finding one out of the three classic movements (the snatch and the clean and jerk separately) most difficult. I am going to talk a bit about the clean today – or more specifically – the front squat part of the clean. If you have been following the blog, I have previously talked about having a relatively weak front squat. Quarter squat is there a real problem. This is whe...

Olympic lifting as cardio | women's weightlifting
http://www.womensweightlifting.co.uk/olympic-lifting
Weightlifting, strength training and olympic lifting for women. Olympic lifting as cardio. I hate cardio. I know that many weightlifters hate cardio. I do love riding my bike out in parks and along the roads, but when it comes to those cardio machines, I hate them! They are works of the devil, i.e. torture devices! If you look at all the men and women on the treadmill, cross-trainer and bikes in the gym, you’ll notice that they all look kind of like hamsters. 🙂. Olympic lifting can be cardio! Olympic-st...

Throwing the bar up in the jerk | women's weightlifting
http://www.womensweightlifting.co.uk/throwing-bar-jerk
Weightlifting, strength training and olympic lifting for women. Throwing the bar up in the jerk. I’m going through a time where the jerks are hard, hence this post. I wonder if you have been watching the Commonwealth Games weightlifting? If so, you will notice that the majority of athletes who fail their clean and jerk execute a successful clean but then lose the jerk. How frustrating for them. The jerk is not a press. So, this is where the legs come in. Leg and glute power are the key to jerking. Once t...

Weightlifting, strength training and olympic lifting for women. My Smolov front squat training. I chose the Jnr programme because of the lower repetitions than the standard programme contains. Had I not had a back injury, I would have done the standard programme which I’ve done before with front squats successfully. Ill log how I get on here. Day 1 – 6×6 @ 70%. First day of front squatting for a while. Felt weak in the core. Made it through. 6 reps was manageable. Day 2 – 7×5 @ 75%. It was a tough-ish se...
