Hacking the K-12 Classroom. Rocketry Project and the X-Prize Delimma. Posted by Wes D. Asymp; Leave a comment. Fifth grade students gather around the air rocket launcher. One is prressing the red button while another is timing the flight on his smartphone. Someone else filled the launcher with air and made sure everyone wore safety goggles. The rocket launcher itself was made by a 15 year old kid and loaned to us by a colleague at another project-based school. In PBL, it takes a village! By the end of th...

Hacking the K-12 Classroom. Project Based Learning – Making of an Animal Shirt. Posted by Wes D. Asymp; Leave a comment. Here is my final product! This t-shirt is for sale at http:/ www.society6.com/wesnice. Read below to see the steps that I took to capture this image and then turn it into a shirt. I hope to do this project with students in the near future! I turned the gray sky white so that it would be better for a t-shirt. To do this I just selected the color of the sky and replaced it with white.

It’s tons of fun for all of them. These days do us all a lot of good. The kids count the time based on when the next activity is and the ones they build are the biggest hig...

Because you don't need to be rich to unschool! Mom…That’s A Crazy, Gigantic Bee Thing! July 30, 2014. We were out walking the other day when we noticed a group of these creepy giant bee or wasp looking things inside an abandoned record store downtown. It was so strange seeing these giant bugs on a faded poster of Elvis. The kids said it looked creepy. 8221; Yeah, it’s that kind of awesome. My family is making some life choices that our extended family certainly doesn't approve of. It's no easy challe...

Because you don't need to be rich to unschool! I’m A Ninja! August 2, 2014. The kids are having so much fun with library events. They do some pretty cool stuff. The most fun so far, aside from the magic show, was the ninja preschool story time. First they read two ninja stories. They read. And were encouraged to act it out. Then there was. The Boy Who Cried Ninja. That one was pretty funny. Afterwards they colored all kinds of ninja pictures and had a ninja craft. They had a blast playing with them.

Because you don't need to be rich to unschool! How They View Charity. August 3, 2014. Today the kids collected donations at church. They were doing their small part to help support missionary work in Africa. In this case, it’s getting an expensive copier for a school so they can mass produce educational material. While I don’t believe in schools or having a school system, I do believe in helping kids help others. Who knows? I'm an unschooling mama of four wonderful kids. I love to knit, sew, and embr...

Because you don't need to be rich to unschool! I’m Erica, though most people call me Fox. The best description I’ve ever gotten of me is an “alternative” kind of mom. Yes, I’ve got dyed hair and piercings, but I’m also an earthy-crunchy sort. I breastfeed, co-sleep, baby wear, and cloth diaper. I’ve been known to walk around. I’ve got to admit, I also like too much stuff to give it all up. He feels like he’s really doing something, which is great for him. Photo of Corde taken by Sander. As soon as we can...
