http://ericlella.blogspot.com/2012/03/latrine-project-is-finished.html
Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Latrine Project is Finished! Well congrats the hard working mason Thierno from Kukuji, all those who dug their holes, and my village father Alpha Mamadou who carted the sand and gravel to each site; We completed the 15 latrines that I got the grant for a month ago. That’s 15 families who will now be able to stop pooping in the bush, which means less diarrhea for everyone! Too bad I didn’t have more time and money to get some more done. Especially to Thierno, that man is a beast of...

The Gammu Gamut | Fear and Loathing in Linguere
https://macmacmacafee.wordpress.com/2013/02/03/the-gammu-gamut
Fear and Loathing in Linguere. A Savage Journey Into the Heart of Senegal. Posted by: Writing Advisor MacAfee. February 3, 2013. Islamic brotherhoods in Senegal have an annual celebration of the birth of Mohammed, called here a Gammu. The date is pretty flexible, which means that if you want, you can attend multiple Gammus in multiple places. We in the field call this ‘hitting the Gammu Circuit’. I hit it hard. Next up was Gammu Xol Xol! Sisters at Gammu Xol Xol. Baay Birame and I. Laquo; The New Year.

Fear and Loathing in Linguere. A Savage Journey Into the Heart of Senegal. Posted by: Writing Advisor MacAfee. January 3, 2013. Well, everyone, it’s 2013, the year that I return home to America! But… c’est la vie. Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry Pratchett. Laquo; I’m on the way! On January 4, 2013.

A jaraama Senegal!: COS: Close Of Service
http://ericlella.blogspot.com/2012/04/cos-close-of-service.html
Wednesday, April 18, 2012. COS: Close Of Service. About a week into April I said goodbye to my family and friends for two years, packed up my hut, gave my last gifts, handed my key to my Baba and I biked out of Pellel Kindessa. It was a sad experience, and the short ride to Dindefelo alone was bittersweet, I know I’ll go back again to visit sometime, I hope that it is sooner than later. Earlier that week when hiking out to the Dindefelo waterfall for one of the last times, I finally saw the chimpanzees!

it starts with a step...: August 2010

It starts with a step. Tales from serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal. August 30, 2010. I have reached the half way point in Ramadan, alhamdulillah (. Arabic phrase meaning "Praise God" that can and should be used in any and all situations). Here's the one unambiguous rule:. No eating or DRINKING while the sun is up. The morning is "productive" time. The heat doesn't make you want to weep pure salt tears yet and you have a little energy from your early morning porridge. So, this is when...My ga...

Sarah l'égaré en Senegal: International Women’s Day 2014
http://sarahspraxis.blogspot.com/2014/03/international-womens-day-2014.html
Sarah l'égaré en Senegal. A chronicle of my life as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Saturday, March 8, 2014. International Women’s Day 2014. On the way back to Dakar from Thies today, one of our Peace Corps doctors asked me if I ever thought about everything I’d learned since coming to Senegal. Three years ago when I got off the plane in Dakar for the first time, would I have been able to guess everything that would be in my head today? Ndeye with her oldest son in a photo she. Accidentally took with my ipod.
