Hello world! | Veg in Singapore

https://veginsingapore.wordpress.com/2012/05/26/hello-world

May 26, 2012. This is my first post and I hope to share through this blog my experience of being a vegetarian and the many choices that vegetarians have for dining out in Singapore and beyond. There was a time when being vegetarian in Singapore was a difficult proposition and most of the time you had to eat home cooked food. That has changed completely and more and more people are turning to a vegetarian diet and today there is so much interesting variety available for vegetarians. May 26, 2012 at 8:30 am.

90% of those polled say they will vote for opposition – Article 14

https://article14blog.wordpress.com/2015/06/02/90-of-those-polled-say-they-will-vote-for-opposition

Proclaim the truth and do not be silent through fear. – Catherine of Siena. 90% of those polled say they will vote for opposition. Note to readers: This survey is unrepresentative of voting patterns. The intention is to understand if there is a pessimism among opposition voters and not to see how many would vote opposition (which would be an impossible task in an online survey). 1 LKY’s death and the propaganda overdose following that. 3 WP’s continuing legal troubles with Town Council management. Given ...

Electoral Boundaries Review – Time for Change – Article 14

https://article14blog.wordpress.com/2015/07/16/electoral-boundaries-review-time-for-change

Proclaim the truth and do not be silent through fear. – Catherine of Siena. Electoral Boundaries Review – Time for Change. 8216;to build a democratic society’. 8211; that’s a phrase repeated in schools throughout Singapore on a daily basis. Children and teenagers in this country have been pledging that since the 1960s. As with a great many things that we learn by rote, the national pledge has been uttered by many Singaporeans without passion or respect for nearly five decades. Click to share on Google (O...

GE 2015: The Battleground Constituencies – 39 hot seats – Article 14

https://article14blog.wordpress.com/2015/08/10/ge-2015-the-battleground-constituencies-39-hot-seats

Proclaim the truth and do not be silent through fear. – Catherine of Siena. GE 2015: The Battleground Constituencies – 39 hot seats. Although, the last General Elections in 2011 cannot be seen to be indicative of how election results would be in 2015, there is some basic insight that we get as to which are the likely seats that will be hotly contested between the PAP and the opposition parties. Potong Pasir SMC 50.36%. Joo Chiat SMC 51%. East Coast GRC (5 seats) 54.8%. Tampines GRC (5 seats) 57.2%. Joo C...

Watershed Election? – Article 14

https://article14blog.wordpress.com/2015/08/01/watershed-election

Proclaim the truth and do not be silent through fear. – Catherine of Siena. There is some talk about how this GE will be a watershed election. In the larger scheme of things, the 2011 GE represented a watershed. There is a barrier that the electorate pushed against and overcame: Fear. We spoke much about the ‘new normal’ after the 2011 GE. It was a watershed not only because the opposition broke through the GRC barrier but also because the electorate broke through the ‘fear’ barrier. The voters that woul...

General Elections 2015 – How the winds may blow – Article 14

https://article14blog.wordpress.com/2015/07/24/general-elections-2015-how-the-winds-may-blow

Proclaim the truth and do not be silent through fear. – Catherine of Siena. General Elections 2015 – How the winds may blow. With the Electoral Boundary Review Committee set up 2 months ago and with the increasing likelihood that the General Elections might be called in September 2015, I figured that it would be useful to take a look at the current electoral boundaries and the performance of the PAP in the 2011 elections. Largest vote swing against the PAP in an SMC: Joo Chiat SMC 14%. The votes didn’t s...

Proclaim the truth and do not be silent through fear. – Catherine of Siena. What if the rules mean whatever the decision-maker wants them to be. Imagine that you are playing a football game. Score 1-0 (in favour of your opponent). Score 1-0 (in favour of your opponent). Score 2-0 (in favour of your opponent). Your team focuses all its efforts and manages to score a goal right between the two central goalposts. It is a clear, clean strike from your player. PAP in the next General Elections: Better, same or worse? – Article 14

https://article14blog.wordpress.com/2015/05/23/pap-in-the-next-general-elections-better-same-or-worse

Proclaim the truth and do not be silent through fear. – Catherine of Siena. PAP in the next General Elections: Better, same or worse? Who would you vote for if the General Elections are held held today? Regardless of the party that you might vote for, do you think that the PAP would perform better than, worse than or the same as in GE 2011? I already started doing this poll last week. It has been a week. The article that I wrote where I included the poll. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window).

Poor People in a Rich Country – Article 14

https://article14blog.wordpress.com/2015/07/12/poor-people-in-a-rich-country

Proclaim the truth and do not be silent through fear. – Catherine of Siena. Poor People in a Rich Country. Growing up in Singapore through the 1970s and 1980s, the karung guni man was a common feature. They collected newspapers and cardboard boxes. Over time, the karanguni men that collected old stuff became more interested in electrical items. There is a garbage collection/recycling industry out there that is lucrative. As usual, it is lucrative for those higher up the economic food chain. That would be...

https://article14blog.wordpress.com/2015/05/15/singapore-general-elections-in-2015-will-pap-do-better

Proclaim the truth and do not be silent through fear. – Catherine of Siena. Singapore General Elections in 2015: Will PAP do better? I just read The Online Citizen article. On some research findings on the likely performance of PAP in the next General Elections. It appears that 80% of those polled think that PAP will perform the same or better than in the 2011 Elections. Against the backdrop of the high possibility of an election this year, there appears to be a popular perception that the PAP would make...
