runtilyoudrop: Running- and no AT
http://runtilyoudrop.blogspot.com/2014/04/running-slow-progress.html
Trivial tribulations of a triathlete. Monday, 21 April 2014. Running- and no AT. So finally running is coming on but boy is it a hard grind. The physical effects of a long run seem to me now to be my key limiter. Following the 10 % rule of run progression ( don't increase run volume by greater than 10 % in any week) I can now get 17 miles without stopping or any Achilles tendinitis. With under 4 weeks to Lanzarote I need to balance the recovery from the long runs with the need for more endurance and a de...

runtilyoudrop: December 2011
http://runtilyoudrop.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Trivial tribulations of a triathlete. Tuesday, 27 December 2011. 50 runs in 50 days. On Xmas day I completed my 50th run of 50 minutes in 50 days (give or take). This saw me run just under 500kms in the same time period with a weekly average running time of 6hrs and 20 minutes. This is the most running I have sustained, the only other times I have run 6 hrs or more have been in the peak weeks of ironman training or in the build up to a marathon. So the big question is whether this has done me any good?

December 30, 2013. I really enjoyed the feeling of necessity to keep moving. I had an emergency mobile phone but with suitably low battery to be of much use. I didn’t have to go fast just keep going. I really enjoyed myself! I am just hoping that tortoise-and-hare mindset will stand me in good stead when the full ironman marathon section gets tough. It felt pretty windy and wild up on the moors! I even look like I’m enjoying myself, and (ha! No pigeon toes in sight! This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

As many people know, I love my food! So, much of what I make for breakfast, lunch and dinner has to be prepared (and eaten! Quickly (and I don’t own a microwave). I also have a particular weakness for cakes, and try to find healthy alternatives to get my sweet-tooth-fix. In addition, I find that training affects my system such that wheat usually needs to be avoided. However, I’m no angel, and sometimes only the squidgiest cake or pud will do! Not sure why called bread, it’s clearly cake! Beat in an egg.

Monthly Archives: May 2015. May 26, 2015. It was there every time I looked up for what seemed like ages! Then losing my orientation and veering off course (cue large detour to ensure I swam the complete route), effectively I was out of the race before I ever left the water. On race day, the waves had calmed down from this on Friday. Thankfully, otherwise I may be still out there! 8216;Why is she taking so long? Well, my lovely Torq race bike looked the business! However, my mindset was a bit bleak and I ...

A blog about endurance racing and sport psychology. Sunday, 24 February 2013. 5km challenge: Week 5 and 6. So I thought it best to leave it a couple of weeks before my next update. The weekly trudge was getting dull. Things have been going well, but still lots to learn. Weeks 5 and 6 were supposed to look like this:. However, because I transferred all these sessions to my handwritten notebook (incorrectly! 1) CHECK THE PLAN! Obviously it better to do the remaining ones correctly though, than compromise t...

August 10, 2015. No one really wants to come fourth, do they? Especially when fourth turns into fifth just minutes later! One thing you learn particularly on a lap run course is that, once you have passed the finish line to start a new lap, you can’t bear the idea of not getting run up the magic carpet. I’ve never yet DNF’d a race and the panic of wondering how do you actually ‘leave’ the course without anyone noticing? But it’s really not all doom and gloom. I came away with a lot of positives:. She pus...
