A View From Right Field

A View From Right Field. Monday, February 20, 2012. The Case for Rick Nash. It's been a polarizing topic to say the least, but I wanted to take a crack at presenting the best possible case for Rick Nash in a medium that allows me the use of more than 140 characters at a time. I unabashedly believe that we should trade for Rick Nash, and I wouldn't be adverse to giving up Dubinsky, Kreider, and a 1st rounder to get it done. Here's what I'm thinking:. 2: He'll fit with the team concept. 3 Cally-Mitchell-Ha...

A View From Right Field. Wednesday, October 12, 2011. NHL Preview, Part 2: Western Conference. As promised, here is my Western Conference preview:. What I like: The power play. Three guys scored 10 or more PPG last year, and you have to assume that Datsyuk would have done so too had he not missed a quarter of the season. They ranked top 5 in the league, and given that they were also top 10 in penalties drawn, the opportunities will be there. What I don’t like: Luongo’s mental health. Lu h...Endgame playe...

A View From Right Field: October 2011

http://viewfromrightfield.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

A View From Right Field. Tuesday, October 18, 2011. So over the last week, I've had to do research that involved reading state codes. In the process, I've run across a bunch of statutes designating state symbols and emblems for each state. As this is SIGNIFICANTLY more interesting than what I was researching, I looked into it a little more once I got home. Here are some of the random factoids I came across, one for each state. Alaska has a state flower. I wasn't aware plant life could grow up there.

http://viewfromrightfield.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

A View From Right Field. Sunday, June 27, 2010. So, I've been alone all weekend. Marie has gone to her uncle Jim's 75th birthday celebration in Chicago, leaving me and Ellie the Cat to hold down the fort in her absence. Though nothing major has happened, I felt the need to write some of this stuff down, as this blog needs to reclaim its status as the place where I vent the random thoughts that enter my brain. May all your hits be crits,. Friday, June 18, 2010. Reflections on a Screwjob. The mystifying pa...

In the pursuit of His justice: September 15, 2013

http://inthepursuitofhisjustice.blogspot.com/2013_09_15_archive.html

Thursday, September 19, 2013. My office recently started up a book club, which is awesome, even if that means I'm somehow in three book clubs. (Oops.) We're currently reading Wolf Hall. Which is about Thomas Cromwell. So far, I'm not a huge fan of the writing style- historical fiction in present tense is a bit silly- but, I'll withhold further judgment until I have finished the book. So I am privy* to the many ways in which gas can go terribly wrong. That says to me that, at least historically, our socie...

Monday, October 7, 2013. Alan brilliantly suggested baking cookies this weekend. When he asked what my favorite cookies are, I immediately responded, "Snickerdoodles! So, when Alan and I decided that we were going to make snickerdoodles, I immediate texted my mom to ask for the recipe, because no other would do! We were entertained that my iPhone wanted to autocorrect to "snicker doodles," which we imagined to be excessive chortling while drawing. I was pleased with how our snickerdoodles turned out, jus...

There are a number of reasons why someone might choose to reduce or eliminate their consumption of animal products, but these are the reasons that most motivate me:. Humane Treatment of Animals. Tuesday, November 19, 2013. Confession: until recently, I had no idea how to stir-fry. You'd think it be simple, what with the primary instructions being right there in the name, but I had no idea what to do. My family never make it growing up, so I had no experience making it. I'm fairly adventurous in my cooking as an adult, but somehow stir-fry never made it into my repertoire. Veggies that Alan and I receive every two weeks. I can't get it crispy! What are your favorite things to stir-fry together?

Tuesday, February 4, 2014. I'm concerned about the California drought. I want to do my part to help with conservation, so I started researching ways to cut back on my water usage. Apparently, 50% of residential water use occurs outdoors, so I'm already way below average on that front, what with my lack of yard. Nonetheless, there are some. That urban dwellers can do:. Sunday, November 10, 2013. San Francisco Living: A Year in Review. Fact: I still have two boxes I have yet to unpack. I moved into my apartment a year ago today. It's funny that I ended up living in the city, because I never aspired to move to San Francisco. Really, I just wanted to shorten my commute. With all the recent reports. I'm also thankful that my building is rent controlled, so I only experienced a 1.9% increase in rent this year. My other concern as I moved into my apartment was the size.

Wednesday, August 28, 2013. The Monday before last, on my way out the door, I grabbed a box of granola bars I'd been meaning to take to work. I quickly shoved the box in my bag and hurried out the door to face the large number of phone calls I had stacked up for the day. When I got to work, I pulled the box out of my bag, and discovered this:. Unbeknownst to me, Alan had left an adorable, punny note on my granola bars because I had mentioned that I was bringing them to work! Alan was diabolical, and the ...

View From Rain Island

View From Rain Island. Sunday, March 10, 2013. My affair with doilies started the first time I made one. I think it was the lace that first hooked me. Crocheted lace is so feminine yet the crochet and thread combine to create a surprisingly strong piece of fabric. Like many women I know, it can appear delicate but has an inherent strength built it. Top, I cut off the spaghetti straps and used a crocheted collar for the neckline and triangular shaped doilies as embellishment. The Pineapple Top. I also use...

This gorgeous rocker belonged to my husband's grandmother. It was one of the jewels he was given after she passed. It was a bit weathered. I thought I had taken a picture of it before but I can't find it so I will do my best to describe and maybe you can imagine. Although I loved the rustic look, I decided it needed a face lift.
