http://viewfromtheuppercircle.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

View from the upper circle. Theatre in the south of England on a budget. Friday, 26 February 2010. Waiting for Godot' at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket. Being able to stretch my legs out? Sitting in a seat with a padded back? I'd better not get used to it, or things could get expensive. Monday, 8 February 2010. An Inspector Calls' at Wyndham's Theatre. Yes, water really does come tumbling down, right there on the stage, so that the actors’ clothes get wet and mucky. Marvellous. It is this piece of informat...

View from the upper circle. Theatre in the south of England on a budget. Thursday, 26 November 2009. The Cherry Orchard at the Palmer Hall, Fairford. Most of the comedy is in the form of farce, with a clumsy clerk and poor-mannered nobleman providing the bulk of the laughs. The overall feeling of the play however leans more towards tragedy; themes of unrequited love and loss abound, and the only characters who are satisfied by the finale are Lopakhin and the highly objectionable manservant Yasha. Inherit...

View from the upper circle. Theatre in the south of England on a budget. Wednesday, 22 September 2010. Felix Dennis at the Exeter Phoenix. Yesterday I went to see a poet. This was a rather odd thing for me to do as poetry isn't usually my thing. Or rather, the kind of poetry I got forced to study in English classes at school isn't my thing. I truly thought that the vast majority of poems in the GCSE syllabus were dire. Emblazoned across the top. I'm a student. Go figure. This was good wine.

View from the upper circle. Theatre in the south of England on a budget. Tuesday, 24 August 2010. La Bête at the Comedy Theatre, London. Molière, the real one. The play opens to the scene of a dinner party, the guests of which are members of an acting troupe retained by a Princess who sees herself as a patron of the arts. However, all is not well and the troupe’s leader Elomire (can you see what Hirson did there? The play's message is one that we have heard many times before, and the whole thing is hardl...

http://britishcreatures.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

The British Creature Blog. Wednesday, 18 November 2009. Tuesday, 3 November 2009. Back in the spring the pond was in a sorry state. It was still full of creatures, but these were scarcely visible due to the suffocating swathes of blanket weed and duckweed clogging up the water. The pond was also choked by a proliferation of decaying leaves, deposited there by a nearby tree the previous autumn. Drastic action was required. One of the newts I found in the mess of leaves. Will they naturally regulate their ...

View From the Trike | mostly-true stories about life with cerebral palsy

Today I broke those rules. My son’s school speech-language pathologist had recently recommended that we make him an 8-card PECS communication card for his desk. That means that he would have a quick “cheat sheet” with words like. Yes, no, more, stop, mad, I, want,. His weaknesses all stem from his behavior. Not his intelligence. And if they are failing to see that, I need to figure out a more diplomatic way of expressing this. Although I was fairly subdued and my voice never raised to a yell,...8220;More...

View from the Veranda Podcast. The Website for the 'View from the Veranda' Podcast. Time called on the Veranda. January 6, 2014. Henry Hyde and I don’t get the opportunity to meet face-to-face very often, so when we do, it’s time to chat about all manner of things. One such opportunity arose at the Warfare show last November, and (surprise, surprise) our “10 minute” chat lasted for the best part of an hour. This was the crux of this particular part of our chat: what were we going to do about VftV? So, be...
