Set Perennially Reservation with PowerCLI. Posted on December 13, 2015. Bull; 0 Comments. I am going to make this one short and sweet. On a reboot, hosts that have access to RDM LUNs can take a LONG time to reboot. In order to correct to correct this we can set the hosts to have the LUNs perennially reserved. The only way to set this is by typing(sorry no GUI fix). In esxcli we see,. Esxcli storage core device setconfig -d naa.12345671234982734987 –perennially-reserved=true. Vm=get-vm VM to Set perrenial...

Posted on October 10, 2014. Bull; 0 Comments. Yes, Puppet has been out for a while now. Yes, I am sure a ton of people already have “Getting Started with Puppet” posts. Well, I am going to do it. I have been wanting to become more familiar with Puppet for a while and just haven’t sat down to do it. Looking at the puppetlabs.com site I saw they have a “Learning VM” which has “quests” to learn puppet. LaaG, or Learning as a Game, I am Down! Initial reaction is that the Learning VM for Puppet is pretty intu...

John Mark Troyer on IT transformation, community, and media. On Leaving VMware and Creating a New IT Community. May 1, 2014. I’m leaving VMware in a few weeks. I’m starting a new community, TechReckoning, where the broader IT community can come together and figure out where things are going with technology, the IT industry, and even their own careers. Which brings us to TechReckoning, my new project. To fund this little adventure, TechReckoning also has a consulting arm. If you are wondering how to b...

Find vCPU to Physical CPU Ratio with PowerCLI. Posted on February 27, 2014. Bull; 6 Comments. This is an interesting thing that I have been looking at lately. Before I start though I should probably clarify terms, so we are all speaking the same language. In this article when I say Physical CPU, or pCPU, what I am referring to is the logical threads available on the ESXi host. For a 2 socket, quad-core host, this would mean 8pCPUs, if said host is hyperthreaded, that number would then be 16. It depends o...

Finding Templates with PowerCLI. Posted on November 14, 2014. Bull; 0 Comments. Although this doesn’t happen often sometimes I find that I have misplaced a template. First you need to connect to your vcenter with the “connect-viserver” cmdlet. Then change to the psdrive vmstore, and finally search for the template with get-childitem -recurse -include *.vmtx. What I blocked out here is the datastore. If you want to invest a little more time, you can search directly on the host vis ssh or VMA.

Interconnecting EMC VNX5200 | vNoob

Posted on June 4, 2015. Bull; 0 Comments. Alright, for my first post back, I created a pretty diagram of the Unified connection scheme for the VNX5200. I found the documentation from EMC, although very good, never had a complete picture of everything once connected. Having to plan it out for my own implementation I decided to share it with you. This if for Unified. Across the top you will see the connection types each line represents. Along the side is each hardware component. And I’m Back!
