2º semestre de 2007. Terça-feira, abril 25, 2006. A instalação do novo build durou 40 minutos, ocupando 11GB no disco (versão x64 Ultimate). Ele parece ter melhorias de desempenho em relação aos builds anteriores, e ocorrem menos travamentos. A primeira diferença que se vê são os novos papéis de parede e imagens para a conta de usuário. O Internet Explorer 7 teve sua interface ligeiramente modificada, e no About aparece "Internet Explorer 7 ", talvez para diferenciá-lo do IE7 para XP.

2º semestre de 2007. Quinta-feira, maio 18, 2006. Requisitos mínimos do Vista revelados. A Microsoft liberou os requisitos mínimos e recomendados para o Windows Vista. Os mínimos são um processador de 800MHz e 512MB de memória RAM. Para obter os efeitos gráficos do Aero Glass, é necessário ter um processador de 1GHz (preferencialmente de 64-bit), 1GB de RAM, placa de vídeo de 64MB (128MB recomendado) com suporte a DirectX 9.0 e Pixel Shader Model 2.0, 15GB livres no HD e drive de DVD-ROM.

O Windows Vista Beta 2 (build 5384.4) foi liberado pela Microsoft, inicialmente para os Beta Testers e assinantes MSDN. Em breve, ele também estará disponível para o público.
