What a piece of garbage that thing is! Once I got the original flywheel back from the machinist I discovered the flywheel shims for the 40HP engine are different from those more commonly found in the '66 and later VW air cooled engines. I'm finally working on the engine for the Nautilus in earnest and I like the idea I'll have a tach to monitor the RPMs during break-in. I finally sent the other gauges out to North Hollywood Speedometer for rebuild. While working in the front trunk area, Jeremy had a chance to check out my 'spare-change alignment handiwork' on the right hinge. He will fabricate an aluminum shim to shift the hood into better alignment. Also, my search for acceptable front hood seal material continues, as the Type 14 seals are still not quite right.
