He had a nice time in his porta-chair, ignoring us, and trying very hard to male-bond with the six burly Englishmen and the next table, who, oddly, didn’t seem to notice him! We were only supposed to go as far as Teddington (where the Thames becomes tidal) today but, through a couple of small contrivances managed to go a bit further, for which we will be particularly happy tomorrow: more today equals less tomorrow! I’m turning into the expat Hong Kong Brit of the eighties…the old HK joke: How can you tell that the plane which just landed at Kai Tak is British Airways? So, I really must stop this whining!
