I'm meeting with the owner of this awesome Homestead museum sometime this week to see about volunteering and possibly working in his blacksmith shop! On a sadder note, I had a 200 year old Mousehole anvil slip through my fingers last week.

I made him a growth chart for his 1st Birthday. 6' by 10" poplar. At first I used my table saw to rip this angle into the face all the way down, to mimic a ruler, but i was unhappy with it and cut it off. Marking out the inch and foot marks. Always happy when I can use my spokeshave. Works wonders on rounding over edges. Miss you, buddy. Simple...

With all the Holiday time off I finally got to spend some time in the workshop! Beautiful slabs of cherry that I picked up at an estate sale. Decided to make a small bench for my brother for Christmas. Figured I would mortise and tenon on some rustic legs made from branches. Here I began chiseling. New plan, drill out some 1-1/2" round mortises. Here is leg #1. We're on track again.

Portable hand cranked forge. Wrought iron and steel 150lbs anvil. My next "must have tool", hand cranked drill press. This bad boy went through steel like it was butter. So, the knife a made a few posts back had a little problem. After talking to Keith, he educated me on the fact that if my pin holes aren't perfectly aligned the scales will split.
