Keeping an eye on emerging issues in media and communications
September | 2013 | Watching Media
https://watchingmedia.wordpress.com/2013/09
Keeping an eye on emerging issues in media and communications. Monthly Archives: September 2013. Cramping hands = productive day. It’s by no means perfect – but it’s there and I can work on it now until it is done! To celebrate, I thought I would post my draft introduction to this blog:. Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet 2012, p. 1). A major cultural diplomacy program run in India in 2012-2013 by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Given the complex nature of culture...
Discourse Analysis | Watching Media

Keeping an eye on emerging issues in media and communications. To save someone else the pain – Florian Schneider. At Politics East Asia. Has three great blogs on the subject:. A discussion of the ideas behind discourse theory. Instructions on how to set up a discourse analysis project. And my favourite: ten work-steps. On how to do a discourse analysis. His posts are not oversimplified but are practical and have some great sources to follow up on. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. September 20, 2013.

Keeping an eye on emerging issues in media and communications. Oz Fest cover image and detail. I am finally getting in to the content of my thesis where I’m finally talking about Oz Fest! It’s been great to read what scholars have said before, but analysing the festival itself is more exciting! The main source I am using in my analysis of Oz Fest is the Oz Fest brochure. This is obviously not the end-point, but a taste of what is to come! Well, I’m off to the library! June 19, 2013. Cunningham’s argument...
Writing the Abstract | Watching Media
https://watchingmedia.wordpress.com/2013/09/19/writing-the-abstract
Keeping an eye on emerging issues in media and communications. As a break from thesis-writing I have taking at stab at writing my abstract. This is something I assumed I would do last, but it’s been a helpful process to clarify the “bones” of my thesis. I found the advice of the University of Queensland in Writing an Abstract. Very straightforward and helpful. National Culture and International Trade: representations and negotiations in Oz Fest. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. September 19, 2013.
Cramping hands = productive day | Watching Media

Keeping an eye on emerging issues in media and communications. Cramping hands = productive day. Today was perfect. The sun was shining and there were literally birds singing. I only know about this from my walk to the library early this morning and a glimpse of the lovely day as it ended on my walk home. So yes, I spent about 9 hours straight in the library today – but that’s another kind of perfect. Today I managed to write my first full draft of my thesis! I aim to offer a constructive critique of the ...

Spring brings out sun, smiles and teletubbies | Meseemeese

Spring brings out sun, smiles and teletubbies. September 16, 2014. Spring skiing is great. Mum bathing in sunshine on Olympic. The sun is out, people are smiling (maybe they were before but I couldn’t see through their balaclavas) and the lines are shorter. Sure there’s also some grass to dodge, but with the increased visibility that’s hardly even a challenge! Needless to say, I enjoy my skis gliding along the soft spring snow – especially alongside my mum’s skis. Four sets of happiness. Being super-cons...

Colouring the canvas with ideas and observations… or whatever I can find. September 26, 2012. After a big build up, the annual Faculty of Creative Arts Nude Auction at UOW was a huge success! Many students, staff and local artists donated work that was to be auctioned off with the profits all going toward our fundraising for our end of year graduate exhibition. We had a fantastic turn out and … Continue reading Naked Success. September 18, 2012. Finishing the Biennale with a Bang. September 13, 2012.

Since starting my new job I haven’t found much time to make things. This large amount of pent-up creative energy might explain why I spent the day transforming a dress into a Supreme Dalek costume. The Supreme Dalek – inspiration for my costume. I started by cutting strips of black felt and using the hot glue gun to stick it around the bottom of the dres...
