A movie blog by Craig Joseph and Tim Barlow. A Bromantic Comedy, or How This Got Started. Guest Post – Breaking Away. Editors Note: we’re thrilled to have a post from the talented David Blake Fischer on the blog. If you like it, you can check out more of his writing at his blog, here. By David Blake Fischer. Dear Dave, (Mike, Cyril, and Moocher). Hey, come on in, Dave. Nah, I read where this Italian coach said its no good to go swimmin’ right after a race. Who’s swimmin’? I’m takin’ a leak. Home for the Holidays – Watching Ourselves

A movie blog by Craig Joseph and Tim Barlow. A Bromantic Comedy, or How This Got Started. Home for the Holidays. Home for the Holidays. At least ten times, and yet, this Thanksgiving-dinner-with-the-family-gone awry still makes me wince. It’s hard to watch because it’s so real; rarely have characters been this raw, blemished and authentic on screen and that’s why I love it (and them). A tense exchange between two sisters:. You don’t know the first thing about me. Believe me, neither can I, Ma. The more w...

A movie blog by Craig Joseph and Tim Barlow. A Bromantic Comedy, or How This Got Started. Monthly Archives: August 2013. August 9, 2013. Reaction to Home for the Holidays. Kind of a busy week; in addition to it being my Dad’s birthday, I also learned a new word. It came up in something I was reading, and I had to look it up: Solipsism. Home for the Holidays. As a kid, your understanding of your parents is that they are there to be your parents. They don’t have dreams or wishes or desires beyond you&#...

A movie blog by Craig Joseph and Tim Barlow. A Bromantic Comedy, or How This Got Started. Monthly Archives: February 2013. Reaction to Fight Club. Tyler Durden is exacting his revenge. I used to love. And then, today happened. I’m sitting at my desktop computer, at work, at 11:31 PM, writing this blog entry because my Mac which has my original post on it has been lost by an airline. (I fully expect to have it returned to me, vibrating.). I’ve been here since about 8:30 AM on and off trying to get through...
Reaction to Breaking Away – Watching Ourselves
https://watchingourselves.wordpress.com/2013/07/29/reaction-to-breaking-away
A movie blog by Craig Joseph and Tim Barlow. A Bromantic Comedy, or How This Got Started. Reaction to Breaking Away. My immediate thought after watching. For the first time was, I wonder how far Tim and I have come on this movie-watching journey we’ve started? So I can say this, right? Coming of age movies sure loom large on Timothy’s list. So why these flicks, Barlow? Or maybe it’s a misery loves company proposition: a character’s ennui legitimates your own. We’d do well to also ask where have I been?

Just another WordPress.com site. After a break…. Special WATCHING OURSELVES Post. May 10, 2013. I’m guest posting on WATCHING OURSELVES. 8230; check it out! That was precisely who I had been. (And, while adulthood had lent me many devices to mask it? I am still that guy.) So I came to The Royal Tenenbaums hoping for more of that drug, I was both hopeful and fearful that the film wouldn’t live up to my expectations. (read the rest here…). Storyguru, sensualist, theoryhead. After a break…. All in a day.

Watching Oprah
Friday, May 27, 2011. Reflecting on something as gargantuan as The Oprah Winfrey Show. Is not an easy task. I dont even know how to begin. Maybe Ill just start with the ending. A very good place to start. The finale aired yesterday, and I was there right at four oclock, and watched the whole thing, commercials and all. It was funny how many commercials were made specifically for the finale. Even Pixar cut a trailer for Cars. That catered to the Oprah. Audience (You get new Cars. You get new Cars. All I c...
