What is Unseen

The Answer, My Friend, is Blowin' in the Wind. I remember reading about the San Francisco ban on plastic grocery bags last year and thinking that it sounded draconian. From the look of it, though, an Irish tax on grocery bags. Accomplishes the same policy objectives while still avoiding a burdensome state mandate. Now if only we could incorporate the same principles into our policies on water use and carbon emissions. Thanks to Emily Upstill for sending me this inspiring music video. The Story of Stuff.

What is Unseen: December 2007

http://www.whatisunseen.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html

Saw this piece of art ("Pater Noster" by Sean Landers) at the Denver Art Museum a few weeks back (for more pictures of the painting, check out a photo album here. The basic premise is that the artist started writing brief "diary entries" in a way that formed a series of patterns on an immense piece of canvas. He started the work when he found out that his father had terminal cancer, and it ends shortly before his wife is to have their first child. Nice to see the world still has some sense. I do find it ...

On Mercury. Very cool. Posted by Stan Molever. Wal-Mart Saves the World (Really). I was recently directed to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution article from 10 days ago reporting. That 7500 Atalant.ans? Showed up at a new Wal-Mart to apply for a maximum 400 jobs. Unpopular though it may be, Wal-Mart has a unique opportunity to serve as the impetus towards more "green" and "socially conscientious" business. Because Wal-Mart, like all firms, is forever seeking to maximize profit, it will inevitably attempt to...

Push Backs and ISATs: Closing the Achievement Gap. Monday, June 23, 2008. A much overdue post. June 11, 2008 marked the official ending of my first year of teaching. I survived. At this point, I couldn't be happier. Summer vacation has taken on a COMPLETELY new meaning, and I'm soaking up each moment of it before it fades away. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Push Backs and ISATs: Closing the Achievement Gap: Adoption

http://mspaulsonlivingintheenc.blogspot.com/2009/01/adoption.html

Push Backs and ISATs: Closing the Achievement Gap. Friday, January 16, 2009. Blake and I have taken the plunge and made our first adoption. Unlike most other people, we didn't bring a new animal into our house. We certainly didn't take in a child either (which sometimes could be considered an animal, but regardless). What a great idea! I might have to try doing that. January 16, 2009 at 11:41 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). What I do on the Internet. Pandora: to satisfy musical fixes.

Push Backs and ISATs: Closing the Achievement Gap: April 2008

http://mspaulsonlivingintheenc.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Push Backs and ISATs: Closing the Achievement Gap. Sunday, April 27, 2008. Blake ventured up to Henderson this past weekend (MUCH earlier than previously expected! To experience what rural living is all about. We chaperoned Prom together (see hot couple on left)- it was held at Vance-Granville Community College. The students looked amazing; the facility was decorated quite nicely and the ambiance was quite elegant. Many other teachers were there; we dipped out early after our two-hour stint was up. And a...

Push Backs and ISATs: Closing the Achievement Gap: Snow Day 2009

http://mspaulsonlivingintheenc.blogspot.com/2009/01/snow-day-2009.html

Push Backs and ISATs: Closing the Achievement Gap. Tuesday, January 20, 2009. Although it was only a workday (and one that I had previously requested off- lucky me), today was a celebrated day here in North Carolina. While (most of) the rest of the country watched the inauguration of our 44th president, some of us found more childish joy in the simple weather fixture of snowfall. Alas, I have returned. The final semester starts on Thursday. 90 days and counting. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Push Backs and ISATs: Closing the Achievement Gap. Wednesday, February 27, 2008. I've become a staple at the basketball games.taking tickets and then watching the games. Our boys team is currently pursuing the state title. I find it almost ironic because I never watched my own boys team during high school (who did win state). Sunday, February 24, 2008. Push Backs and ISATs: Closing the Achievement Gap. Saturday, December 29, 2007. Best Winter Break Ever (and it's still not over). I think I've reached that point in life where I am SO much more appreciative of time off, especially in the company of family and friends. I have done a minimal amount of work, and it has been exactly what I needed. Minus my battle with a cold, I have enjoyed every moment of winter break:. Starbucks daily with a random assortment of dates: Dani, Missy, Matthew and Eric. Playin...

I have a majority of the same students, which is both a blessing and a curse (just for a few though). Accountability on organization: students must keep folders organized in my class at all times. Monday, December 6, 2010. The Finality of Finals. I want to start off by thanking our two posters last week! The second post really caught my attention: "Some people don't have families like mine. In fact, nobody does, but I mean to say that for some people, family relationships are a ball and chain, an unlucky penny, or foot in the door of hell. For them, I pray they find the joys of family in other loving AND honest circles.". How does it all work? How do we not go crazy! Thirty minute naps allow you t...
