The Wheatsheaf and Pigeon. The pub in the heart of your community. The Wheatsheaf and Pigeon is a community pub on the corner of Wheatsheaf Lane and Penton Road between Staines upon Thames and Laleham. It was built in 1850 as a public house to serve the families of the eel fishermen who lived in the cottages next door. We are family and dog friendly but please keep both on a leash! We look forward to welcoming you to our home. Designed by John Weir.

Initially a farmhouse, the lady of the house provided meals to local farm labourers and the tradition of becoming a local hostelry grew from that time. Later, the Wheatsheaf became a coaching stop en route from Lancaster to Carlisle. The old A6 runs directly outside the front door with the bridge over the river Bela (pronounced Beela) becoming an important crossing point for traders.
