The Attachment Chronicles: a blog about special-needs adoption: March 2014
http://theattachmentchronicles.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
The Attachment Chronicles: a blog about special-needs adoption. My unvarnished story about adopting a boy who turned out to have autism. Saturday, March 29, 2014. Today we took Quinn to a sensory movie - a fantastic offering by AMC Theatres, where they show a movie once a month without previews, with the lights dim but not dark, and with the sound turned down to a reasonable volume. Will he hit a peak? Will he grow up to be someone who happens to have autism or someone who is defined by it? Check out thi...

The Attachment Chronicles: a blog about special-needs adoption. My unvarnished story about adopting a boy who turned out to have autism. Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Quinn is so very concrete. The whimsical and imaginary just makes no sense to him. Two sample conversations from the last couple of days:. Mama (singing): "Here comes Quinny cottontail.". Quinn: "Hey, I'm a boy! Mama: "You're not a bunny? Quinn (politely but emphatically): "No, thank you.". Quinn, what are you going to be when you grow up?

The Attachment Chronicles: a blog about special-needs adoption. My unvarnished story about adopting a boy who turned out to have autism. Saturday, September 15, 2012. Rules, rules, and more rules. I try to keep things positive with Quinn. Before we brought him home, we were lucky enough to have breakfast with awesome psychologist and author Dr. Kevin Leman. He lamented how he hears so many parents walking into Walmart while telling their kids, "You had better not act up! You better not touch anything!

The Attachment Chronicles: a blog about special-needs adoption. My unvarnished story about adopting a boy who turned out to have autism. Wednesday, September 11, 2013. No, this didn't happen in 1950. It was today. In my home school district. Special-needs kids were left outside an elementary school in the heat for two hours after their bus broke down. Why weren't they allowed inside? School officials feared the SN kids would disturb the NSN kids enjoying an air-conditioned after-school program inside.

What is a 3D printer good for? July 6, 2015. July 6, 2015. What is a 3D printer good for? I assume this is a question most 3D printer owners get asked repeatedly and I’ve never been quite sure how to respond. Somehow the media has convinced many people that 3D printers are only useful for making guns and useless plastic trinkets. Here’s what’s in the picture and why I made it:. Tripod Ballhead Friction Plate. Tripod Hook and O-ring Replacement. PET/ABS) – Charges during the day, works as a low ligh...

Centering in the midst of chaos. Skill to do comes of doing." Emerson. Karyn Purvis talks about it in her book, The Connected Child. I've read it, several times, and used the technique. But, I left it in the bottom of my bag of tricks for too long. This really and truly works. It's called a 're-do'. You let her know you've got all the time in the world for her to try this, and you'll be helpful every step of the way. And that you're fine with giving her some space. Just another WordPress.com site. June 14, 2013 / whirlingneedles. Danger at the Opera. The orchestral cacophony died down and the house lights dimmed as the conductor mounted the stage. A hush fell over the crowd, then a discretely enthusiastic clapping greeted Agent M’s entrance to the stage. Several besotted young and handsome men jockeyed to throw roses at her feet, eying each other in hostility. An usher quickly moved them away from the stage, and the music began. That was nearly a fatal mistake.

Monday, August 17, 2015. My First Con: GlitchCon 2015. Back at the end of July, I went to my first ever convention. Okay, technically I went to a "convention" a few weeks earlier at the Rogers Public Library because my friend, Harper Voyager author Brooke Johnson. Was there, but that was less a "convention" and more "an event put on by the public library." It was very sweet, but very very small. Did I mention the cosplayers? Do you see that Mr. Freeze cosplay? The first day, I'll admit, wasn't a whole to...
