Backroom Bourbon: Decanted
http://backroombourbon.blogspot.com/2009/03/decanted.html
Discussions and thoughts on bourbon. An experiment in maturing bourbon in an oak cask. Sunday, March 8, 2009. O3-08-09, I have now pulled two pints out of the barrel. There is a remarkable difference in all aspects, look, smell, and taste. The 8 year old has mellowed and become smoother. I took a bottle up to the backroom of the Crawfish. Backroom Bourbon: Empty Barrel
http://backroombourbon.blogspot.com/2009/03/empty-barrel.html
Discussions and thoughts on bourbon. An experiment in maturing bourbon in an oak cask. Saturday, March 28, 2009. 3-28-09, I have emptied the barrel. I decanted about half a liter. It is a darker, richer, smoother bourbon than what went in. I have now refilled the barrel with Old Charter 8 year old again. I plan on leaving it in for at least two months. This has been a great experiment. And it will continue as long a the barrel continues to mature the spirits within. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Nose Palate Finish: March 2010
http://nosepalatefinish.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 4, 2010. JMR’s The Smooth Sweeter One. Jon, Mark and Robbo's. The Smooth Sweeter One. Vatted malt Scotch whisky. The final JMR offering I've had the chance to try. There's still a fourth one out there, somewhere - The Fresh Fruity One - but it's either unavailable in the US, or unavailable period. Too bad you can't hardly find it anywhere. Links to this post. Nose Palate Finish: Compass Box Orangerie
http://nosepalatefinish.blogspot.com/2011/05/compass-box-orangerie.html
Saturday, May 28, 2011. Blended, infused Scotch whisky. I heart Compass Box. They make such neat drinks. Orangerie is exactly what it says on the tin. In fact, the tin goes into further detail: "Orangerie is a whisky infusion made of smooth, sweet Scotch whisky infused with the hand-peeled zest of Navalino oranges and subtle accents of Indonesian cassia bark and Sri Lankan cloves.". Check Like I said, it's right there on the tin. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Labels (click to expand).

Backroom Bourbon: .............Still Waiting

Discussions and thoughts on bourbon. An experiment in maturing bourbon in an oak cask. Tuesday, January 20, 2009. 01-20-09, Still waiting. My wife said I needed to post this to let everyone know that I have not abandoned the blog. I do not know what is taking so long. When my sister ordered the barrels for Christmas they told her they. Nose Palate Finish: Talisker 10yo
http://nosepalatefinish.blogspot.com/2011/10/talisker-10yo.html
Friday, October 7, 2011. Today, we've got the base Scotch offered by the Isle of Skye's distillery, Talisker. Single Island (Skye) malt Scotch whisky. There's lots of sherry on the nose here (glancing around online, I appear to be the only one to think so, but I'm not taking it back! It's really quite nice, I must say! Nose Palate Finish: July 2010
http://nosepalatefinish.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 26, 2010. Compass Box Spice Tree. Vatted malt Scotch whisky. Spoiler: this beverage is exactly what it says on the tin. And that tin - er, box - is rather striking, isn't it? Cloves and lemon. Cinnamon and a little ginger? Orange peel. Smooth as all get-out. Very nice and, well, spicy. Made me a fan of these folks, and the Spice Tree only cements it. I will drink pretty much anything they put in a bottle. Don't test me, Compass Box. Links to this post. Links to this post. Jon Mark and Robbos.

Nose Palate Finish: April 2009
http://nosepalatefinish.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Single Islay malt Scotch whisky. I first tried this scotch at WhiskyFest Chicago last year. I liked it, but it was toward the end of the night, and my tongue, she was tired. So I picked up a full bottle of it so I could judge it a bit more critically (well, as much as I ever judge whiskeys critically). It's nice and creamy and smooth, and, at the moment, a joy to drink. Spicy and dry on the finish. Or JW Black Label. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Nose Palate Finish: December 2009
http://nosepalatefinish.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, December 27, 2009. Canadian Club Classic 12yo. Once again, the months just slip by while I fail to blog. Oh well. Here's one I finished the last little glass of last night. Man, I don't know about this Canadian whisky thing. I like the stuff, but I think I haven't had enough of it to taste it properly. I'm getting a lot of what I got with the Forty Creek Barrel Select. Overall, a very pleasant drink, although I prefer the Forty Creek Barrel Select to it. Links to this post. Jon Mark and Robbos.
