artfulnotes: Growing Up Poor
http://artfulnotes.blogspot.com/2015/04/growing-up-poor.html
Portrait of a Cranky Old Man. Wednesday, April 29, 2015. I grew up somewhere between poor and lower middle class. Raised in a largely single parent household, by a working mom who had a high school education (maybe). Pops was there occasionally, mainly when he had finished his drinking spree and wanted the comfort of a home and good woman. Sometimes, my mom would let him in, sometimes not. Mainly, though, he was missing in action. But throughout this period, when we were forming our personalities, no one...

Portrait of a Cranky Old Man. Friday, September 26, 2014. Global Messes and Our Inattention. For example, on our southern border, we have flocks of folks, including a bunch of little kids, hurrying across the border, seeking safe haven. That makes us grumpy. How can we drink our beer and watch the NFL with all these little kids scurrying across and around our fences? So do we do anything about the root causes? No What could we do? But what can we do now? Maybe . . . only maybe. Poor folks can't buy bread?

Portrait of a Cranky Old Man. Thursday, July 24, 2014. Or, perhaps when they convince some young thing to don a dynamite vest, walk into a crowded marketplace and detonate the vest. Makes me wonder what the relative death toll is—Israelis killing Muslims, or Muslims killing Muslims? I wonder, how many people have to die before we conclude that too many people have died? Portrait of a Cranky Old Man. Monday, June 16, 2014. I have already written about my notions of tribes and tribalism:. See- http:/ www.artfulnotes.blogspot.com/search/label/Tribes. Sunday, June 8, 2014. What Would Obama Do? What Would Obama Do? Thinking About that old saw, “what would Jesus do? 8221; Then it struck me; it guides life without actually thinking. So, I finally figured out how republicans decide what to support and what to oppose. They just ask, “what would Obama do? So, Obama is in favor of...

Observed Art: Awesome
http://observedart.blogspot.com/2015/06/awesome.html
Where art goes to be Observed. Thursday, June 4, 2015. Causing or inducing “awe” inspiring an overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration, or fear. So, look on and help me to share with you my sense of this special term of art. That grand place, called The Grand Canyon, is a wonderful sight that is hard to reduce to a photographic image. It is simply, too grand. A few man-made creations seem to qualify. Certainly, the Taj Mahal, seen at almost any time, but especially at first light and at full moo...

Observed Art: August 2014
http://observedart.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Where art goes to be Observed. Thursday, August 7, 2014. August (non) Art Walk. So, as predicted, the Art Walk planned for August 22nd will have to do without any aspiring/itinerant artists displaying at the old bank building. The Arts Council is encouraging artists to display on the lawn outside the old courthouse, but that seems a bit like establishing a homeless venue outside the master's mansion. Besides, what's the probability of rain that night? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

http://observedart.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Where art goes to be Observed. Wednesday, February 19, 2014. Ok, so maybe old man winter has given up and Spring is actually coming. Now, every time I say that, the old fart comes roaring back dropping his little white stuff all over the landscape. Still, he has to go away at some point. So, now we can start thinking of Springy things, and what could be more Springy than an Art Walk? Monday, February 3, 2014. Labels: Spring is Coming. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
