Just Jeff's Homemade Gear - Zippered Segmented Pad Extender
http://www.hammockunderground.org/HomemadeGearSPEZipper.html
Just Jeff's Hiking Page. Going to the woods is going home, for I suppose. We came from the woods originally.". Zippered Segmented Pad Extender. Looking for a better cold weather solution. I really like the DownHammock for three season trips, and it's more comfortable than sleeping on a pad, but I don't want to go into true winter conditions without a pad so I needed a way to incorporate one into my system. I really like the SPE. Concept from Ed Speer and Youngblood, and my homemade SPE. There isn't a dra...

8220;A good dog is so much a nobler beast than an indifferent man that one sometimes gladly exchanges the society of one for that of the other.” (William Francis Butler). Thursday, January 1, 2015. The past three months have been a real whirlwind, and I apologize for not keeping my blog up to date. There just isn't time for me to do everything I'd like to do, and sometimes updating the blog ends up toward the bottom of a never-ending "to do" list. Hardpack showing his "happy face". Of the other 3, Frazil...

If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead, either write things worth reading or do things worth writing.". Thursday, August 31, 2006. PSKs often include several small items (i.e. fish hooks, safety pins, needles, etc.) which can easily be lost in the woods when the kit is opened. There are a few ways to deal with this problem. First, you can find yourself a small vial or other container in which to place these small items. That will also give you all kinds of extra room for other essentials.

If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead, either write things worth reading or do things worth writing.". Saturday, September 30, 2006. I got to spend most of my day in the woods yesterday. Actually, I explored some familiar ground in the morning and new ground in the afternoon. It wasn't the best time of year to harvest berries but the mushrooms are out in large numbers this time of year. If I knew more about which were edible and which were not I could have harvested armloads yesterday.
