Life & Its Adventures: Fatbiking With A Vagabond
http://www.joshspice.com/2013/02/fatbiking-with-vagabond.html
Fatbiking With A Vagabond. I had the pleasure of going fatbiking with Glenn Charles. For the day on the Stampede Trail, north of Denali National Park, Alaska. Glenn rode his fatbike up from Anchorage. And was literally stopped cold in his tracks by a 40 below cold snap. When he got to Denali. Before returning south, I drove down to spend a beautiful day fatbiking with a man who truly is living an incredible life outdoors. 05 March, 2013 02:34. So glad you hooked up with Glenn! 2011 Year In Review. Riding...

Life & Its Adventures: Thoughts from the Crest of the Alaska Range
http://www.joshspice.com/2010/08/thoughts-from-crest-of-alaska-range.html
Thoughts from the Crest of the Alaska Range. When I did use the poles, I found one pole to be more than sufficient and actually preferable to two poles. The only time two were actually useful is when I was hiking very steep uphills and using the poles to catapult across streams. Maybe I'll just become a better hiker and guess what? My feet were already wet, so why bother trying to keep them dry? One pole. Decision made. I cut the foam back support out of my GoLite Pinnacle, since I already use my light s...

Life & Its Adventures: Day Boating
http://www.joshspice.com/2010/06/day-boating.html
I've recently found fun and adrenaline, plus a great way to spend one day, in day boating with my packraft. Simply put, hike in and float out. It allows me to go very light and minimalistic (no backpack necessary! Plan for current conditions (weather, water level and class), make a quick adventure, get on rivers and creeks not conducive to longer trips, and easily gain experience in the packraft (compared to trying to fit a long trip into a weekend). Everything I bring can be carried on my PFD:. How To: ...

Life & Its Adventures: Backcountry River Crossing
http://www.joshspice.com/2010/02/backcountry-river-crossing.html
Here's a technical document I wrote up on backcountry river crossing, available to print by clicking here. I hope everyone can take something from this and that some will add to it, as well. River crossings can be deceptively hazardous and Alaskan rivers are unlike those in the Lower 48. The following are some tips for crossing rivers safely. Be cognizant of hazards that may lie downriver and determine a rescue plan and potential take out point. Never attempt to cross above rapids or falls. As in...If yo...

Alaska Explorer: Homemade Frame Bag
http://alaskaexplorer.blogspot.com/2011/05/homemade-frame-bag.html
Monday, May 30, 2011. Here is my first attempt at a frame bag. It turned out to be a very nice bag that is simple, and water resistant/proof (it has been sitting out in a couple of rainstorms, and then inside is still dry! May 30, 2011 at 8:25 PM. Sweet ride, hombre. Too bad they dont make those tires in red. And paint that fork; I heard it has been warm. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The updated version of Denali Ride.
