I used a Canon EOS40D with a 100-400mm lens, handheld at the 400mm end of the zoom. I had to set a higher ISO (800) to give me a fast enough shutter speed to keep the images sharp. In this shot of a young Starling on a mealworm binge you can see the effect the bright light morning sun has had. Taken with an aperture of f5.6 the bokeh is distinctive and still reasonably soft around the edges of the circles. On our drive away from the lakes, we stopped briefly for a Snipe which we did not managed to photograph and found ourselves both distracted by a low grunting call from a copse of trees that for a few moments had us both perplexed.
