Spinning, dyeing, knitting and other domestic goodliness. Mend and make do. Something in the way he moves…. February 5, 2015. February 5, 2015. This was the state of the gusset of my husband’s shooting trousers. The second hole was so big that my darning mushroom kept slipping through! I’m a big fan of Tom van Deijnen http:/ tomofholland.com. I’m sorry – I have no idea what this yarn is – I bought it in the US last year – it was mostly merino, 10% cashmere and some nylon). Did you miss me?

Spinning, dyeing, knitting and other domestic goodliness. February 28, 2015. February 28, 2015. Last week was half term week here so we’ve been racing around the country. First up was some time in Somerset where we helped my parents manage some of their land – felling diseased trees and chopping back hedgerows. I also managed to have a bit of a forage for some (potential) dye plants. It’s pulcherricium caeruleum (now Terana caerulea) and if it is I. It’s quite rare in this country. There wasn&#...Home fo...

Spinning, dyeing, knitting and other domestic goodliness. February 11, 2015. I feel like I’ve been spinning and knitting shades of brown for months. Coupled with the bleak, cold winter weather, I’m craving a bit of colour in my life. The depths of winter is not the ideal time to forage for natural dye material, but, in an uncharacteristically foresighted fashion, I managed to save and dry some plant matter in the summer when everything was growing rampantly, for just this eventuality. Natural dyes need a...

Spinning, dyeing, knitting and other domestic goodliness. April 11, 2015. April 11, 2015. So much to report, so little time to write posts! I’ve been helping my parents with lambing, and it’s been busy. Lots of work, not much sleep and no internet. This has been my home this past week. Yes – it’s as grim as it looks! Certainly not a Connievan. This is my view when brushing my teeth. I also had some very exciting results from some lichen dyeing – that’s another unwritten post. Oh, and I toiled a prom dress.

More yarn than skills…. Smart Bitches Last Minute Neck Warmer (or: melting in July….). July 5, 2015. Rome is hot this week, even for Rome. Warm in the morning, stifling mid-afternoon, and even the locals are complaining. The flat stays at 29-31C, which is fine if you are immobile with a fan blowing on you, but with no cool evening breeze to lighten the air, life is slow. Dinners are assembled: cold… Continue reading Smart Bitches Last Minute Neck Warmer (or: melting in July….). June 21, 2015. May 14, 2015.

More yarn than skills…. June 21, 2015. June 21, 2015. Rome is warm, and after knitting for ages on a Lacy Baktus scarf (fun, but slow going for me), I took a break and knitted up a quick washcloth as a housewarming gift for a friend. I knew she has a blue kitchen, so a grey and blue set it was. The scarf is done, but is a bit wonky and will need blocking – maybe next weekend? Project 13 (2015): Grey knitted washcloth for Alice. Pattern: See below, Garbaklut. Yarn purchased: online in Italy. Repeat until ...

More yarn than skills…. September 13, 2015. September 13, 2015. We just had a rainstorm, a welcome change. People are back from holidays, schools are starting, and cooking and knitting are both more enjoyable. I have various projects in my knitting basket, but sometimes I just feel like knitting something easy, like these Garbaklut washcloths. Good for holiday knitting where you need to be sociable (and drink wine) and chat without much stitch counting. Project 19 (2015): Magenta Garbaklut washcloths.

One Month On (Almost) - Um mês em (quase). I have now been back in the UK for almost 1 month, and to be honest I have missed writing my Blog on a regular basis, I had such good feedback from people about it, that really made me encouraged about it, as with any website it only works if people want to read what you have to say. People are still coming up to me and asking about my trip so I think it's time to do a bit more writing about it. No sábado à noite cheguei em casa para encontrar meu ...Over the pa...
