At his studio in Cambridge Jonathan produces new violins, violas and cellos, made to order or exact copies on request. A well made modern instrument is the most readily satisfying, sensible and affordable alternative to old or rare master pieces. Due to the genius of their design a well crafted violin made today can last hundreds of years. They could be the antiques of tomorrow, but they are purpose built to be played anytime. Jonathan Woolston makes and restores violins. He divides his time between his Cambridge Studio where he makes new violins and the Royal Academy of Music in London www.ram.ac.uk. Where he helps to maintain and restore their fabulous collection of bowed string instruments. Most of the new instruments are based on Stradivarius models, including 2 award winning cellos for the Manchester Cello Festival.
