Hide: looking for a place of safety from life’s storms. When life takes us to the wire, we long for somewhere safe to hide, a refuge from its wounding, a haven to rest and recover in. If we refuse to let our circumstances make us cower and lift our gaze higher, we may remember a crown of thorns piercing like barbed wire into our Saviour’s…. Continue reading →. a learning curve
http://www.wordsofjoy.me/a-learning-curve
There are weary days where energy is low, inspiration seems to disappear and I feel empty of words, drained and dry. Time and effort are being expended elsewhere and there seems to be nothing to spare. Then a thought or two enters my head and I mull them around in my mind, grant them space to breathe a while. Maybe I can write something after all. perhaps a poem is waiting to come alive? So I sat down with this week’s five-minute-friday prompt ‘learn’. And began to put pen to paper. His hand will guide a...
Beautiful to behold -
http://www.wordsofjoy.me/beautiful-to-behold
It is said that the mirror seldom lies. Or does it? What if the reflection we see isn’t really a true representation of you and me? We are far more than the sum of our parts and a glancing gaze in glass. We are spirit, soul and body, yet it’s often the body which tends to claim major attention. Because we feel so much through it, sense our world and perceive our place in it. But we can fail to fully appreciate the beauty we have within us as we are framed within the mirror of God’s word. Though you feel ...

Preparing to fly free -
http://www.wordsofjoy.me/preparing-to-fly-free
Preparing to fly free. Many of us sit captive to our circumstances. We feel chained down to ground or set aside, caught on a ledge where we fear falling. We may long to stretch our wings and fly but something holds us back from soaring free. It feels safer somehow to remain where we are. Like a butterfly with bruised wings we hover and sway, trying to find a place where we can rest until we feel strong again. Waiting out the time when an open window, open door will appear. Oh yes, my friend, it is. A wil...

Words of Joy: Letting go and moving on
http://wordsofjoy75.blogspot.com/2015/07/letting-go-and-moving-on_10.html
Pause a while to ponder issues of life and faith through poetry and prose. Friday, 10 July 2015. Letting go and moving on. Much of my life lately has felt like a waiting season where I gaze wistful as others go about their days. A place where quiet speaks loud of all God desires me to hear. For several months now I've been asked to sit still, to rest, to learn the value of silence and contemplation as I pace and recover from a relapse in the M.E symptoms. Words of Joy' has a new home at wordsofjoy.me.
More than Writers: Of Clouds and Chariots
http://morethanwriters.blogspot.com/2015/08/of-clouds-and-chariots.html
The blog of the Association of Christian Writers. Friday, 7 August 2015. Of Clouds and Chariots. My prayer partner Elizabeth looked at me with glowing eyes and said: 'God rides His chariot in the clouds! We both love the sky; her next-door-neighbour shows her stars and planets through his telescope. When on holiday recently, we revelled in some glorious sunsets from our vantage point on the decking. One morning I woke up to a note on the table: '3.30 am - stars awesome'. Know what I was going through?
More than Writers: Harbouring a hobby - Tania Vaughan
http://morethanwriters.blogspot.com/2015/08/harbouring-hobby-tania-vaughan.html
The blog of the Association of Christian Writers. Tuesday, 4 August 2015. Harbouring a hobby - Tania Vaughan. I have a confession to make that's not easy for a writer on a writers blog. I am harbouring a hobby called writing! You may think that's great, it's such fun, what better hobby is there? But for me, it's not supposed to be a hobby. How do I know? What is it that pushes my passion to write down into hobby status? Can there really be any worth when there's no financial gain? When I shut myself away...
More than Writers: The link between confidence, Spanish gentlemen, and Lego - by Fran Hill
http://morethanwriters.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-link-between-confidence-spanish.html
The blog of the Association of Christian Writers. Thursday, 6 August 2015. The link between confidence, Spanish gentlemen, and Lego - by Fran Hill. On a crowded Chiltern Railways train last week, two curly-haired, dark-eyed gentlemen from Madrid with whom I shared a table engaged me in conversation. It would have been so impolite not to respond . A friend said later, ‘I hope you recommended your. Book to them.’. I despair of you,' she said. Have you ever picked up a raspberry jelly with your bare hands?
More than Writers: Under the Radar - the Bible as a source of literature by Ros Bayes
http://morethanwriters.blogspot.com/2015/08/under-radar-bible-as-source-of.html
The blog of the Association of Christian Writers. Sunday, 9 August 2015. Under the Radar - the Bible as a source of literature by Ros Bayes. 8220;The trouble with you lot is, you’ve never believed a word God said, you’ve never believed anyone who spoke on his behalf, and now you’re out to get me,” said Jesus, not ever. So they got hold of him and murdered him, and threw his body out of the vineyard.” (Mark 12.1-8, JBP). Jesus understood the power of story, and so did the Bible writers. But the Bible is a...
More than Writers: Nailing that Novel by Annie Try
http://morethanwriters.blogspot.com/2015/08/nailing-that-novel-by-annie-try.html
The blog of the Association of Christian Writers. Saturday, 8 August 2015. Nailing that Novel by Annie Try. I am really excited to have finished my latest novel - well, by 'finished' I mean that I have completed draft 8 or 9 and am about to knock the first three chapters into an even trimmer shape to send them off to a publisher. But how do I know when or if I've finished? I openly declared it finished and hid it from members of my ACW Writing Group (lovely though they are, I needed no distracting sugges...
More than Writers: Don't Go, by Deborah Jenkins
http://morethanwriters.blogspot.com/2015/08/dont-go-by-deborah-jenkins.html
The blog of the Association of Christian Writers. Tuesday, 11 August 2015. Don't Go, by Deborah Jenkins. I've been looking forward to this summer for ages; it's been a tough year at school, I haven't visited my novel for months (Rosie - or was it Daisy? Will need therapy) and, back in the real world, my son's getting married. Four days from when you read this. Eek! It reminds me of that haunting Greenday song: -. You toss endlessly between restless sheets, stroking your published words, veering between f...

More than Writers: Doris Lessing & Miss Lydgate, by Ben Jeapes
http://morethanwriters.blogspot.com/2015/08/doris-lessing-miss-lydgate-by-ben-jeapes.html
The blog of the Association of Christian Writers. Monday, 10 August 2015. Doris Lessing and Miss Lydgate, by Ben Jeapes. Doris Lessing’s quote about accepting second-best being a sin, copied on the front cover of the most recent Christian Writer. Generated a lot of conversation on the ACW pages. I wondered what she would make of Miss Lydgate. Miss Lydgate is an Oxford academic in Dorothy L. Sayers’ Gaudy Night. Whose endless tinkering on her monolithic History of Prosody. Where does the balance lie?
More than Writers: Thinking Outside The Box by Julie Prentice
http://morethanwriters.blogspot.com/2015/08/thinking-outside-box-by-julie-prentice.html
The blog of the Association of Christian Writers. Wednesday, 5 August 2015. Thinking Outside The Box by Julie Prentice. I sat reflecting over the meeting I had been a guest speaker at, they had really laughed at the ice- breaker, let me share:-. Imagine you are driving down the road in your car on a wild, stormy night when you pass by a bus stop and see three people waiting for the bus;. 1 An old lady in a life threatening position. 2 An old friend who once saved your life. 3 The partner of your dreams.

Words and World of James Joyce | Just another WordPress.com weblog
Words and World of James Joyce. Just another WordPress.com weblog. March 22, 2010 by katesbeadzonline. The excerpt below came from the site Wiki-ask:. In fact, it is Maria’s social standing, affected largely by the Ideological State Apparatuses (attending the ritual ceremony, for example), that determines her consciousness. Her isolated consciousness thus feeds upon the ideological self-awareness she has been entrapped in.”. Had I not looked this up, I would have missed a great deal. My respect for J...

Words Of Joy Blog – Words Of Joy Blog
Words Of Joy Blog. Words Of Joy Blog. Scroll down to content. February 28, 2017. I would like to begin with a life experience that I hold dear to my heart. My husband and I tried for a couple of years to have a baby. We weren’t sure if we would ever have one. I had medical issues that made getting pregnant somewhat of a challenge for us. We underwent fertility procedures twice. Our first attempt was not successful. Our second attempt did end up in a pregnancy. How was this in His plan? I began to renew m...

Best of Both Worlds. Best of Both Worlds. Someone asked me today if I enjoyed being deaf, or would I rather just be able to hear like everyone else. I was also asked if I would go back and not get cochlear implants. I’ve never really expressed my opinion about this until I was asked this. This is my own opinion taken from my own experience so this may be a little long but bear with me. So I am able to live in a. World by the snap of a hearing instrument called a cochlear implant. When I was born, I was a...
