http://john-harrison.blogspot.com/2015/06/so-deadly-so-perverse.html
The Lurid Pulp and Pop Culture Writings of. Saturday, June 27, 2015. SO DEADLY, SO PERVERSE. Hot on the heels of Mark Alfrey’s stunning volume on the works of 1970's/80's Italian pulp artist Emanuele Taglietti, Sex and Horror. Korero Press, 2015), comes another terrific book devoted to a unique Italian sub-genre of lurid pop entertainment. Authored by Troy Howarth ( The Haunted World of Mario Bava. And the upcoming Lucio Fulci book Splintered Visions. So Deadly, So Perverse. Cinema are looked at, as well...

SIN STREET SLEAZE: August 2015
http://john-harrison.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
The Lurid Pulp and Pop Culture Writings of. Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Out now on blu-ray through Kino Lorber, The Erotic Rites of Frankenstein. 1972) is a real hoot, one of the wildest riffs on the Frankenstein legend and the best pairing of Frankenstein’s Monster and naked women since Kiss Me Quick! And of course the director himself shows up, playing Morpho the lab assistant. At only 72 minutes, I was easily able to sit through the movie twice in a row, the second time listening to the audio commenta...

SIN STREET SLEAZE: HAMBURGER HILL
http://john-harrison.blogspot.com/2015/04/hamburger-hill.html
The Lurid Pulp and Pop Culture Writings of. Monday, April 13, 2015. No, this isn't a haunting scene from a Lucio Fulci zombie film. Rather, it's an evocative frame grab from John Irvin's 1987 Vietnam War drama/actioner Hamburger Hill. My review of which has now been posted over at the Love and Pop website:. SIN STREET SLEAZE: DEATH WISH 3
http://john-harrison.blogspot.com/2015/04/death-wish-3.html
The Lurid Pulp and Pop Culture Writings of. Thursday, April 30, 2015. Got around to watching Michael Winner's Death Wish 3. 1985) last night. The original Death Wish. From eleven years earlier had a certain New York grittiness and some sense of heightened realism to it, while the LA-set Death Wish. 1982) saw things starting to go over-the-top. But in Death Wish. SIN STREET SLEAZE: SEEDY CENTERFOLD
http://john-harrison.blogspot.com/2015/08/seedy-centerfold.html
The Lurid Pulp and Pop Culture Writings of. Sunday, August 2, 2015. Spent the pre-dawn hours this morning watching the great Andrew Prine going psycho in John Peyser's The Centerfold Girls. To it, and the film as a whole wallows in that peculiar and distinct seediness that many of the rougher American exploitation flicks from this period possessed. The transfer on Glass Doll Films' blu-ray release of The Centerfold Girls. Isn't as sharp or vibrant as their other great new release, 1973's Bonnie's Kids.

SIN STREET SLEAZE: May 2015
http://john-harrison.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
The Lurid Pulp and Pop Culture Writings of. Thursday, May 14, 2015. MAD MAX: FURY ROAD. He may be 70, but with Mad Max: Fury Road. Veteran Australian director George Miller amply demonstrates that he still has a lot of fuel left in the creative tank as he enters the third act of his career, delivering what I can only describe as an audacious ball-tearer of an action movie, the kind that most arrogant young upstarts half his age could only dream of conjuring up, let alone pulling-off. Mad Max: Fury Road.

SIN STREET SLEAZE: STING OF DEATH
http://john-harrison.blogspot.com/2015/08/sting-of-death.html
The Lurid Pulp and Pop Culture Writings of. Sunday, August 2, 2015. Satdee night spook show. Watching William Grefe's low-budget Everglades horror Sting of Death. Have to say the colour palet te in Sting of Death. I think my favourite character in the movie is the young lady who one moment is so traumatised by seeing a boatload of her friends being capsized and stung to death by a school of jellyfish, yet less than five minutes later she "can't wait" to don her scuba gear and start exploring the reefs in...

SIN STREET SLEAZE: UNQUIET DREAMS
http://john-harrison.blogspot.com/2015/08/unquiet-dreams.html
The Lurid Pulp and Pop Culture Writings of. Sunday, August 9, 2015. THE BEASTIARY OF WALERIAN BOROWCZYK. In the world of European genre cinema of the 1970's, few filmmakers trod the line between exploitation and art more finely than Polish-born director Walerian Borowczyk, whose work in the erotic horror field was best illustrated by the films he made in France during that decade and into the eighties, such as the portmanteau Immoral Tales. 1974), Dr. Jekyll and the Women. 1981) and Emmanuelle 5. And one...
