Well, it was time for another Baker family vacation so we packed our bags, sent the dog off to "camp" and headed to New Zealand. Our first stop was the south island's Abel Tasman National Park where we enjoyed a some sea kayaking and camping. The water was blue, the beaches were golden but best of all it was summer! To be continued . . . Your mom wants to go. I love Baker family vacations! Ooh - sea kayaking!

Featuring - The Misadventures of Linus The Spotted Dog. Sunday, April 27, 2008. Back in Black Canyon. Yesterday's weather forecast was for bright, sunny skies. Since most of the trails in the Cascades are still covered in snow Bridget and I headed east of the mountains to the deserts of central Washington. We decided to hike up Black Canyon in the Wenas Wildlife Area not far from Yakima. After parking the car we followed the road to the head of the canyon. Ponderosa pines . . . Who wants a pizza pie?

What a nice way to begin our holiday outing. We got up early this morning, before the sun even, and drove east to the Cascades and the cross-country ski trails. Afterwards, in order to recharge the batteries, we stopped in a West Seattle bakery for some twice-baked almond croissants. Yum! Coming soon . . . India pictures. Every morning ...

A few weeks ago the three of us (me, Bridget and Eric) drove down to Mount St. Helens for a hike to the Plains of Abraham, a vast, desolate, pumice strewn area that allows up close and personal views of the mountain. Featuring - The Misadventures of Linus The Spotted Dog. Monday, June 18, 2007. Over the weekend we went camping in the Wenatchee National Forest and hiked to the Bean Creek basin. Linus went along with us and it's difficult to tell whether he actually enjoyed the experience or not. Between the cold ground he had to lay on and the strange noises he heard outside the tent at night it makes one believe that he was happy to finally arrive home on Sunday to his warm bed and blue bone.

Over the Labor Day weekend we celebrated our third anniversary by backpacking up the Hoh River Valley in Olympic National Park. When you're camping in a rain forest you have to put up some rain but you're rewarded with lush, green surroundings. That evening as we sat on our log by the river we heard several elk calling. We finally noticed the herd of elk crossing a little ways down the river. Hoh, Hoh, Hoh.
