Monday, June 29, 2009. We're just 2 nights away from beginning the 4 th. Season of summer owl research. During the first 3 seasons 932 Saw-whets, 7 Long- eareds. We again want to thank all who have supported this research. For the second year, the Baillie. Provided us with generous support. Even though the 2009 WPBO. Was conducted in May, we continue to receive pledges. This year's birdathon. Presentation on the owl research conducted by WPBO. Name of "chocolate teddy. Juvenile Northern Saw-whet Owl.

Wednesday, March 24, 2010. Things have levelled out a bit, but have remained steady since our last post. After our big night of 73 owls on the 17 th,. We banded 34 Saw-whets. On the 18 th. High winds caused us to keep the nets closed on the 19 th. But the weather has been fairly cooperative the last 4 nights. Over these four nights 36 Saw-whets, 3 Long- eareds. And 2 Great Grays. Have been banded. A Great Gray was also seen on the night of the 22 nd, on which night none were banded. And 2 more Boreals.

Monday, July 26, 2010. Molting juvenile Northern Saw-whet Owl. Has been going well. The weather caused us to close early a couple nights and wind shut us down completely on Saturday night. The system finally blew out of here and 30 juvenile and 1 adult Saw-whet were banded last night. We also saw a Long-eared in the net lanes, but it was not caught. So far this season 204 juvenile and 34 adult Saw-whets, and 2 Long- eareds. Sunday, July 18, 2010. We were geared up for another good night on the 16 th.

Monday, September 28, 2009. We are not banding tonight due to the heavy rain and strong winds. We are glad to have the night off and will be ready to go once the weather breaks. Tomorrow evening isn't looking promising for banding either. We are hoping for a big push after this storm passes on Tuesday or Wednesday night. We will see. Totals: 65 NSWO, 2 NSWO encounters, 1 LEOW. Thursday, September 24, 2009. Monday, September 21, 2009. First Long-eared of the season. Totals for the season: 18 NSWO, 1LEOW.

Tuesday, September 28, 2010. Wendy releases a Saw-whet Owl. With mostly clear skies and light winds, Saw-whet Owls finally appeared in numbers this fall with 33 over the past two nights. One of them was previously banded at the point in May, and another was found in the net with a Black-capped Chickadee it had captured as prey.
