pomp and circumstance |

The only thing that’s missing… →. May 30, 2011. Pomp: n. splendid or magnificent. The heat in the gym was like an uninvited guest. A large, pushy, smothering uninvited guest. Regardless of my choice to wear capri pants and a sleeveless top, my black gown was sticking to me in all the wrong places. As my name was called to come forward to assist the graduates, I felt myself rise and waddle to the stage. I could hear the gasps. I heard a loudly hushed voice mutter publicly, “that poor woman! My feet were s...

The Cutting Saddle, 400 word Challenge | Lori Thatcher

https://lorithatcher.com/2012/01/27/the-cutting-saddle-400-word-challenge

Writing and Thinking about writing. The Cutting Saddle, 400 word Challenge. January 27, 2012. The cow was to be separated from the herd. The rider kept light contact on the reins, and quietly walked into the herd. Natural aptitude, cow sense, and intelligence helped, but it was good training that made this horse a master. The herd milled, but didn’t bolt. The horse waited, without anticipation or nervousness. And I was part of that. My rider sat deeply in my seat and listened to the creak and groan o...

I’ve been filling the role of ‘honorary auntie’ for my best friend’s children since before they were born. I remember when her oldest was younger, every time I babysat and put him to bed, I would burst into tears. When you love someone that much, I guess it has to go somewhere. This week we would like you to write about how the show of affection has played a part in your memory. In the bath, th...

Julie Moore On Life. You are here: Home. Can We Really Be Wonder Women? Can We Really Be Wonder Women? February 4, 2013. This is a post I wrote over a year ago but I think it bears printing again. Enjoy. I remember watching her as a child and I always wanted a pair of those bracelets she wore. With those bracelets she could defeat any bad guy that came up against her. Wonder Woman was beautiful inside and out and could do it all with both hands tied behind her back. You are a Wonder Woman too! Fill in yo...

So as I come face to face with this trial I have every confidence that my God will uphold me every step of the way even when I begin to doubt or step into self pity or fear. That’s what’s so awesome about God, His faithfulness does not depend on me. And for that I am thankful! 1 Thessalonians 5:24 The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.

Julie Moore On Life. You are here: Home. October 27, 2013. There comes a time when you just have to trust that you know what God is telling you. It’s a huge leap of faith sometimes but worth it every time. I recently jumped in with both feet to a almost unknown territory. It was an unexpected opportunity and I wasn’t sure if I could do what was expected. Things I’m seeing with fresh eyes:. 1-God is faithful to work even in the toughest of situations. 2-God is a life changer. Filed Under: 2 minute devos.

Dean Wesley Smith and his wife, Kristine Kathryn Rusch, are setting up and editing an anthology project called Fiction River. You can find out all about it here. So why are they using Kickstarter to get funding? Because they know what it takes to get some seed or start up money. They started up Pulphouse 20 years ago or so and had to close it because the money wasn't there anymore. Despite great stories and covers and all.they couldn't make a go of it after a while. A real shame. Posted by Nancy Beck.

Faeries With Chalkboards | The stuff of a writer's weirdo brain

The stuff of a writer's weirdo brain. October 22, 2012. About playing Novelist: I have a very conflicted (and recently surfaced) identity as an author of Young Adult fiction. Even as I’ve decided that I want most to write stories for 13 to 17 year-olds, the decision is fraught with a simply stupid amount of self-doubt. Also, there’s the sad fact that much of it is to literature what the Huffington Post is to journalism. Sure teenagers need literary characters whose experiences are real and salient to the...

Darwin, the little monkey that sparked a media frenzy last year can finally call Storybook home. According to the Globe and Mail. I call it day after day. It’s part of our agreement. Is it something about his size? The whole scenario is custom-made for tabloid television and the coverage continues to be delivered in an ironic, mocking way, as if the whole thing is a joke. Monday, April 15, 2013. What are vague pronouns and why to I need to avoid them? When composing a piece of writing intended for an audience - even if that audience is only your teacher - one of the most difficult skills to master is the ability to write clearly for someone who cannot read your thoughts. As a reader, I am often confused by what budding authors are trying to communicate. One important skill that I learned from my (surprise! Beware of the lonely this. What is an author's style?
