August 04, 2015. What I love about the Pacific Northwest is that the landscape is so varied. We hiked up mountains, we walked on sandy beaches, we hiked through a rainforest, and we spend an afternoon climbing around rocks as we searched tide pools for starfish. Every morning, my husband and I would find a diner where we could eat a huge breakfast while we planned our day. "Shall we go hiking? Shall we find a beach? Where should we go for the sunset? June 30, 2015. On the road again. After a most fantastic week hanging out with Friendly Green Folks, I'm driving with Ecowoman back to her city, where I'll get on a red-eye flight back to Snowstorm City, then drive up to my parents' camp for our Fourth of July family gathering. July 08, 2015. Naked along the Snake River. 8220;I’m interviewing a geologist this afternoon,” she said. “I’ll ask him.”. It was the kind of canyon that I’ve seen on postcards and calendars and corny cards with inspirational sayings that make me want to puke. This was no muddy swimming hole. It was a river, a real river, deep and powerful, snaking its way through the steep hills and rocks. Maine Writer gave me a sideways triumphant grin as I stared at the magnificent scene. 8220;Let me just check out the...

http://writingasjoe.blogspot.com/2015/07/newborn-twins.html

July 22, 2015. The beach in this photo is just a few minutes away from my youngest sister’s house. So of course, when I visited her, we went over to see the ocean. But the beach was not the main attraction. There was a much more exciting reason for my visit — newborn twins! Visiting a household with newborn twins is completely wonderful. Normally, I’m always fighting relatives and friends for a chance to hold whoever the newest baby is. But with twins, there are enough babies to go around! I share both y...

Falling Leaves: Beautiful Beliefs (5)

http://autumnitas.blogspot.com/2012/06/beautiful-beliefs-5.html

Wednesday, 20 June 2012. It is easy to take hard working people for granted, but we shouldn’t! This is not a post to big up my own efforts though, and ‘hard working’ doesn’t only apply to academics! However small or large the task, acknowledging others' efforts can make a big difference. Say thank you to your mum or dad or other loved ones (thank you to the Physio for making me dinner! Falling Leaves: January 2010

http://autumnitas.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Monday, 18 January 2010. Walking through the mist. As I left the University this evening, a fairly heavy mist was hanging in the air. I know from friends and family who drive that this sort of weather is not good for driving, but for me walking to the bus, and then home from the bus stop, it isn't really a problem. In some ways I quite like it. It's atmospheric. Literary. It feels a little like walking through the pages of a Victorian novel. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Falling Leaves: March 2010

http://autumnitas.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 23 March 2010. Seeing differently 2: confidence and criticism. I know I said in my previous ‘seeing differently’ post that we shouldn’t judge by each other’s standards, but in this post I’m going to suggest that we take into account what others think we are capable of (only if it’s positive! We are often so much more ‘down’ on ourselves than we should be. I need to start seeing myself, my work, my abilities differently. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Falling Leaves: December 2009

Thursday, 17 December 2009. Seeing differently 1: making your own way. As Christmas and then the new year approaches (one of my students recently said that 2010 sounded scarily futuristic, and she may be right), this is the first of a few posts on seeing differently. This one began as an email to a friend responding to his Facebook status update on feeling ‘behind’ in comparison to his colleagues. Saturday, 5 December 2009. Building up to Christmas. Towards all people. And the lady in front of me in ...

Books for 2010 | Going to Pieces

https://goingtopieces.wordpress.com/books-for-2010

So I have decided to read again, after having spent several years just falling asleep to a book, rather than actively devouring it. Since I travel to work by car, I don’t have the luxury of a 20 minute journey on public journey, when I don’t have to be doing anything else. Although I don’t miss the daily commute on slightly unreliable trains, I do miss that time. This will be a list of books that I read this year. Please feel free to add your comments or thoughts. Pre-1st January to present. And really e...

Writing As I Write

Writing As I Write. Saturday, July 25, 2015. 36 } On Always Telling the Truth. It's kind of sad when I can honestly say that the best thing I've written this month is an email to my brother. I have tried. Obviously there's a " real life. Tag over there on the right, but that's reserved for actual stories. Yes, yes: eve...
