Writing Down the Desert: April 2011

http://writingdownthedesert.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Writing Down the Desert. A Life in the Sonoran Southwest. Thursday, April 14, 2011. The cienega and a majestic cottonwood near Arivaca. One of the wonderful perks of being a docent at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Male Vermillion Flycatcher between snagging flying insects. Male Summer Tanager, just looking red. A few days ago we headed to Arivaca, well south of Tucson, to visit the cienega in the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge. Small flycatcher (not identified). Bell’s Vireo (heard). A rare, a...

Writing Down the Desert. A Life in the Sonoran Southwest. Sunday, April 22, 2012. Earth Day and An Oldie but A Goodie. On this 42nd Earth Day (I was an impressionable 19 for the first one), I'm finding myself being more willing to own up to what I've know all along - what we humans do matters to the health of the planet - and it's getting harder for all of us to ignore that. A delicious vegan breakfast! I cut my environmental teeth on Diet for a Small Planet. Diet for a Small Planet. I split my time betw...

Rocky Mountain Cabin Redux: A Grand, and Project Filled, Summer

http://rockymountaincabinredux.blogspot.com/2013/07/a-grand-and-project-filled-summer.html

Rocky Mountain Cabin Redux. More than a cabin was lost in the Hayman fire – here's our story of re-creation. Eleven years ago, shortly after falling in love with my now husband, the Hayman fire took the cabin he'd helped his father build in 1963, a cabin that had been a family retreat ever since. It left a huge hole in his life, one which we are now going to fill. A Grand, and Project Filled, Summer. View my complete profile. Lewis's Woodpecker, juvenile. Writing Down the Desert. Life and Times in the Bay Area. Sunday, October 16, 2011. A couple of weeks ago Chris competed in and completed his first ever Triathlon. I went along to watch and cheer him on. It was the Scott Tinley Triathlon. Down in San Luis Obispo - a triathlon Chris grew up hearing about and daydreamed about completing for many, many years. He completed in the sprint distance (.25 mile swim, 12.4 mile bike, 3 mile run) and completed it in 1 hour 48 min. Chris gets his number - 212 - and preps for the race.

Life and Times in the Bay Area. Saturday, December 31, 2011. This picture was taken at a wedding in November by the same photographer that shot. Our wedding over 7 years ago. Writing down the distance. Friday, October 30, 2009. Links to this post. Saturday, October 10, 2009. Just the other day I hauled our heavy scrapbook off the shelf here in New Zealand and leafed through a stack of pages displaying photos taken during the first few weeks of our meeting, in January 2001. Once the ink on these old photos glowed warm like the human heart but now that warmth of hue has faded from the paper. They seem almost weary. Links to this post. Saturday, July 25, 2009.
