Moonwritings: July 2012

Musings and occasional rants from a location in the pacific northwest, where the air is still sweet, the trees tall and old, and we can see the stars in a clear night sky. Is this paradise? Friday, July 20, 2012. My heart goes out to the victims of today's Aurora, Colorado shootings. Let's all be sending them collective strength as they deal with the aftermath. Unimaginable tragedy has struck, from the hands of one of our own, and getting past this sadness will take time. That's enough for now. To be hon...

Musings and occasional rants from a location in the pacific northwest, where the air is still sweet, the trees tall and old, and we can see the stars in a clear night sky. Is this paradise? Monday, July 16, 2012. I’m not. But often, I see people posting on Facebook about being bored or their kids being bored or how bored they are or how they hate being bored and having nothing to do. Work on my sketching? Grade a few papers? Make some progress on the next book outline? Putter in the garden? Go for a swim?

Musings and occasional rants from a location in the pacific northwest, where the air is still sweet, the trees tall and old, and we can see the stars in a clear night sky. Is this paradise? Wednesday, September 26, 2012. Starting the Day Right. I've made a discovery: A day that begins with physical activity tends to stay more active and motivated than one that doesn't. Be active" meant just that: we had to do something. And we've done it! Being active early also encourages me to find ways to stay active:...

Pagan in the Kitchen. Saturday, October 11, 2014. Say "Nicole’s Cranberry-Maple-Ginger Sauce. or Syrup." or just say AMAZING. You know, I think autumn may be my favorite cooking season of the year, what with soups and stews and pot roasts and gingerbread and hot cider and pumpkin pie and any number of other fall treats. I love the fresh foods of summer, but there's something about the lengthening fall days and cooler temps that makes fall comfort foods feel like balm for the weary soul. 1 1/4 Cup water.

Pagan in the Kitchen. Tuesday, October 7, 2014. How Does Autumn Taste? I started with 5.5 lbs of peeled and cored golden delicious and King apples (weighed with a food scale). I chopped these fine in my food processor and put them into a kettle with 2 C. of water. ABH #2: The finer you chop the apples, the more quickly they'll begin to soften and cook down. However, if you puree them too early, their cooking will look more like what happens in a Yellowstone National Park mud pot. With huge, appley "bl.

Writing down the distance. Friday, October 30, 2009. Links to this post. Saturday, October 10, 2009. Just the other day I hauled our heavy scrapbook off the shelf here in New Zealand and leafed through a stack of pages displaying photos taken during the first few weeks of our meeting, in January 2001. Once the ink on these old photos glowed warm like the human heart but now that warmth of hue has faded from the paper. They seem almost weary. Links to this post. Saturday, July 25, 2009.
