Writing to Succeed
writing to survive : blog
Only the retelling counts. Get writing to survive. Delivered to your inbox. For we live with those retrievals from childhood that coalesce and echo throughout our lives the way shattered pieces of glass in a kaleidoscope reappear in new forms and are songlike in their refrains and rhymes, making up a single monologue. We live perma- nently in the recurrence of our own stories, whatever story we tell. Best of the blog (44). The struggle redefined (86). Blogs and bloggers (14). When the dust falls. She wou...
Writing To Survive | Ramblings of a Secondhand Breast Cancer Victim
The ACA, AFLAC and More. November 23, 2014. The reason I opposed the ACA was that I was worried about people in my own financial situation, or worse, who simply went without health insurance because they could not afford it. (I won’t get into how this wouldn’t be a problem if our health care pricing wasn’t so far out of line…) This was my concern, first personally, but then extended to others that I thought surely existed. November 2, 2014. Computers caught my attention, and I once again found a way to i...

Leaf out of her book
Leaf out of her book. Sunday, 1 May 2016. I spent a few weeks of April in Chicago, for the wedding of some most excellent and fabulous people. It's been five years since I've seen them and their crowd, so we spent a couple of weeks geeking out, catching up, and getting them hitched in a very heartfelt and adorable ceremony. It was absolutely lovely, and I'm so glad I could be there for it. Sirens edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling. So You Want to Be a Wizard by Diane Duane. Labels: geek is good.

Writing to Think and Learn
Writing to Think and Learn. Sunday, October 6, 2013. Data is, or data are? The Oxford English Dictionary. Has the following to say about the use of the word data as a mass noun (data is) versus as a count noun (data are):. In Latin, data. Is the plural of datum. And, historically and in specialized scientific fields, it is also treated as a plural in English, taking a plural verb, as in "the data were. Which takes a singular verb. Sentences such as " data was. Collected over a number of years". Never use...

A genderqueer trans dyke on identity, education, systemic oppression, pop culture, and probably whatever else i feel like processing with strangers. I Was Wrong About Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. July 8, 2012. This is a cross-post from. Getting Fired, Giving Some Interviews, Taking Action. Before Occupy and all its myriad (and at times catastrophic) effects on my life, I was a one-trick pony of sorts. My focus in activism was a narrow one, born from personal experience and thrust onto the national stage. On No...
