Yoshinkan Aikido

A training journal of my experiences at the Brisbane Dojo of Yoshinkan Aikido. July 02, 2005. It's been a while since I posted here. After 5 months my injury feels pretty good. Just about all the neural pain is gone now. Sometimes I can feel it a little if I have been sitting in the same position for a long time. But, apart from that, my back feels good. Will I return to martial arts? Posted by Herb Bana @ Saturday, July 02, 2005. February 26, 2005. End of the Line. February 12, 2005. I have to get some ...

Yoshinkan Aikido: End of Year

http://www.yoshinkan.blogspot.com/2004/12/end-of-year.html

A training journal of my experiences at the Brisbane Dojo of Yoshinkan Aikido. December 28, 2004. I passed my grading OK and am now having a break. Next year I should achieve my 1st Dan. My back feels good, I've been swimming in the ocean. Looking forward to the new year. OSU. Posted by Herb Bana @ Tuesday, December 28, 2004. Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I originally found bonsai everywhere while vacationing in Japan. Families passed the same plant through the generations. I was fascinated.

Yoshinkan Aikido: 11/01/2003 - 12/01/2003

http://www.yoshinkan.blogspot.com/2003_11_01_archive.html

A training journal of my experiences at the Brisbane Dojo of Yoshinkan Aikido. November 28, 2003. I didn't have to grade this month but I attend training a couple of nights to look at what is required for 3rd Kyu. There are a lot of new techniques, particularly Ushiro techniques. These involve being grabbed from behind. I haven't had to do these before so I am enjoying the challenge of learning these. So far, they have all involved wrist grabs from behind. I'll let you know what it's like! This month on ...

Yoshinkan Aikido: Another One Down

http://www.yoshinkan.blogspot.com/2004/12/another-one-down.html

A training journal of my experiences at the Brisbane Dojo of Yoshinkan Aikido. December 19, 2004. Well, another grading down, another one next month. Everything went as per normal. The steps are pretty straight forward, I find. There's no great surprises. My back feeling it today but. I guess I can take it easy now and check in with the physio next week. The dojo will be closing over the Christmas break anyway. Hopefully by next year I will be fully recovered and ready for a new year. OSU.

Yoshinkan Aikido: 01/01/2004 - 02/01/2004

http://www.yoshinkan.blogspot.com/2004_01_01_archive.html

A training journal of my experiences at the Brisbane Dojo of Yoshinkan Aikido. January 31, 2004. I've been so busy lately, I can hardly get to the dojo. Basically I've only been going once a week, just to stay in touch. But I have been doing double classes so the intensity is always high. It is the only way to train. OSU. Posted by Herb Bana @ Saturday, January 31, 2004. January 22, 2004. We did an interesting version of irimi nage ichi the other night. Posted by Herb Bana @ Thursday, January 22, 2004.

Yoshinkan Aikido: 06/01/2003 - 07/01/2003

http://www.yoshinkan.blogspot.com/2003_06_01_archive.html

A training journal of my experiences at the Brisbane Dojo of Yoshinkan Aikido. June 28, 2003. Grading went well and it was the largest grading the dojo has ever done! There were 20 groups that graded and the whole grading lasted approx. 5 hours! A long time to sit in seiza. My 6th kyu shinsa went well and my partner was also grading for the same level. I have never met my. Partner until today so it was also a test to work in harmony with each other. I have trained with the other guys. June 23, 2003.

Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo: Tanjo Techniques

http://jojutsu.blogspot.com/2004/08/tanjo-techniques.html

Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. An account of my experience training in Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. Friday, August 20, 2004. Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo is more than just jo. There is, of course, kenjutsu, but then there is other weapons syllabus as well. The other night at kenjutsu training we spent the last half hour doing tanjo. The tanjo is about the size of a walking stick. Very practical, it is a modern addition to the system appearing in the 1800's due to the modernisation of Japanese society and Western influence.

Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo: Progression

http://jojutsu.blogspot.com/2004/09/progression.html

Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. An account of my experience training in Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. Sunday, September 19, 2004. I've been shown nearly all of Seitei kata set now. I'm hesitant to say that I've learnt it but I guess that we never consider ourselves to be good, no matter what level we reach. There's only one more kata left for me to see and then I will prepare for the Omote set. Anyway, for now, I enjoy what I do. Posted by Herb Bana @ 9:16 pm. Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo: Saturday Training

http://jojutsu.blogspot.com/2004/08/saturday-training.html

Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. An account of my experience training in Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. Saturday, August 21, 2004. Had a good session today with jo kata. I went through everything I know but the last kata especially was a bit hazy as I have only been shown it at my last jo class. We also did some good kihon practice which I haven't done in a while. I felt pretty rusty, we need to do that more often, every class in fact. I felt really tired by the end of class. Posted by Herb Bana @ 9:24 pm.

Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. An account of my experience training in Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. Saturday, November 20, 2004. Jodo at Mt Fuji. Posted by Herb Bana @ 12:38 pm. Jodo is the true Warriors art. It should teach uchidachi as well as shidachi. Try not to be impatient with this particular art. All the good ones take much time. Don't give up. Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. http://jojutsu.blogspot.com/2004/09/kata.html

Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. An account of my experience training in Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. Saturday, September 04, 2004. Good kata practice today. I learnt two new ones, the names of which I can't remember. Next week I'm going to take a notebook to training and write down all the names of the kata I have learnt. It's time I know the names as well as the movements. Posted by Herb Bana @ 7:42 pm. Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo: Kihon Practice

http://jojutsu.blogspot.com/2004/09/kihon-practice.html

Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. An account of my experience training in Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. Wednesday, September 01, 2004. Did some good kihon practice last Saturday. Two hours of solid work. It's good that we are getting back to basics, establishing a firm foundation on which to build. I think I feel improvement, but it is hard to tell. Monday night at kenjutsu some of the sword movements felt good. Smooth and strong. Hopefully a sign of progression. Posted by Herb Bana @ 10:55 pm. Site if you like.

Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo: Thinking of Concepts

http://jojutsu.blogspot.com/2004/09/thinking-of-concepts.html

Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. An account of my experience training in Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. Friday, September 10, 2004. I find it harder to write for this blog. Because Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo doesn't have any gradings there is no monthly build up like in other martial arts. It's easy to write for my other blogs, usually they are entries on my preparation for an event. Posted by Herb Bana @ 7:31 pm. Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. View my complete profile.
